Ok I wouldn’t have a problem with the black national anthem at least I don’t think I would I’ve really never heard it so I reserve the right change up on that one but as far as Black Lives Matter I don’t agree with the way it’s being handled I do agree Black Lives Matter the same as white lives brown lives really every and all lives matter I believe the way they’re going about it is just perpetuating hate and racism its a racist movement the way they’re going about it please correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t some of there cofounders saying they’re goal was to inslave all whites and again correct me if I’m wrong because it was second hand information from the news a while back and I don’t trust the news but when some of the actions make it believable. I understand how they feel but the facts are no one alive today is in anyway responsible nor have any suffered the way they did hold us responsible for our actions from today but think about the end result. Nobody wins and the loss will be to great for everyone. I grew up in a rough neighborhood where I was a minority. Being I white kid in a rough neighborhood where whites are the minority trust me I understand and I did carry hate in my heart when I was young until I learned about what their past generations dealt with and even what was happening then put things in perspective and getting to a point where you realize where all the same if you come at my family I’m gonna come at you if you did wrong to my grandparents I’m gonna want to get even we all love our families we all need food water and to be treated with a certain amount of respect and human decency I’m no better or worse then anyone else regardless of color and all I can say is I’m sorry anyone has suffered in such ways and let’s try and move on for our future generations because as I said we all lose don’t put down the fight but just fight a winning fight I agree cops need to be put in check but by getting laws changed and policing the police by a public comity of every color every income bracket and even someone from the so called worse neighborhoods and actually get shit done

I’m black… here’s my take.
Yes, I do think it is a bit much. I understand people are upset about the national anthem being replaced. However, I don’t think their intention was to cause a further divide. I think their intention was to give black people/players more support. Are there better ways to support the players? Of course. But my main focus lies on their intention.
None of this really wouldn’t have happened if there wasn’t a problem with black people being seen as less than in the first place. And I know, we can’t dwell on the past. But it’s a problem that we have, that we have never fixed, and I’m not sure if we will ever be able to fix it. Like going to a grave and adding flowers to a tombstone time after time again, they’re just trying to pay their respects (especially after what happened last year).
So while I definitely wouldn’t have done this to show my support to the black players, I’m not necessarily against what they have done. I don’t agree, but I also don’t disagree.
I know this is going to get a lot of angry backlash :p the question/description is obviously biased and I’m not even that passionate about this topic. It is what it is.
Not really open to debating this, I have too much going on in my life to care any more than writing this reply.

I think it’s kind of a strange custom to tie patriotism into entertainment with a pre-game national anthem, especially since we don’t do it at other large entertainment gatherings like concerts, etc. Now that I think of it…. so they play the anthem before a tennis or golf match? I don’t really watch those sports, maybe they do and I just don’t know, but the handful of times I’ve caught the opening of a broadcast, it hasn’t been played on TV. Matter of fact, it’s only during the Super Bowl that I see the anthem played on TV, even though it still goes on at regular games, but I mean, as a viewer, which the majority of us are as opposed to being a live spectator, we don’t even see it, do we? So do we not see the black national anthem either? Are they calling attention to both, or just one? I mean, either way, it’s just an odd and kind of pointless thing to get your drawers bunched up over. I tune into watch the game, nothing else. If I’m not missing plays because they’re showing something else, then I’m irritated, but as long as I see the game I came to see, I’m a satisfied customer. It’s already weird enough that I’m passionately rooting for complete strangers to win a game to get vicarious feelings of triumph, lmao, let alone any of the pageantry that goes along with it.
The pledge of allegiance would be awkward at a tennis match lol. The only difference I can think of is that tennis originated from France. Baseball and football originated from here. I get what you’re saying though. You just want to watch the damn game lol. I’m sure many people agree. Sucks that they’re trying to add politics to football. You gotta do the Canadian anthem if it’s hockey in Canada, soccer teams do it around the world…. and I get it when it’s Olympic or some other international competition where you’re literally “Team USA” or wherever, but I just never quite understood when and why we started tying in anything governmental to these particular events, especially when it’s not universal across all sports, let alone other forms of mass entertainment. Like Guns N Roses didn’t start with the anthem when I went to their show last month, and that was in Fenway Park, where I DO get asked to go through the whole custom when the Red Sox are on the field in front of the same sized crowd. It’s not that I’m offended by any of it, regardless of what I think, I can stand up for 60 seconds and take my hat off, if nothing else than to not ruffle anyone’s feathers. I’m more just wondering if the fact that it’s cause for SO MUCH feather-ruffling these is reason to maybe re-examine the custom and maybe just keep it for more government- or military-related events, like functions for Memorial Day/Veterans’ Day/4th of July, shit like that.
I don't support anything like this. If I wanted to be preached to I'd be attending church or calling my parents for advice. Why do I care about what a bunch of random people I have no vested interest in and no ties to think about literally anything? Unless I can somehow benefit from it I honestly don't care. Only time I'm willing to do anything in support is for people who are sick/dying, someone getting beat up, I openly see discrimination, etc. But I don't take people's words for anything. I believe only what I see.

Well for starters, it was written by a 19th century slave owner, Francis Scott Key. The main part you hear sung from the song is what’s popularized but no one mentions the 3rd stanza, which says “no refuge could save the hireling and slave; from the terror of the flight, and the gloom of the grave”.

Then you release wild animals into the arena, preferably foxes to run chaotically. Then the teams of people try to fling the animals into the air like a football with their cloth and spectators watch the wild animals tumble to the ground. It was often done with vermin animals, but foxes where preferred because they try to right themselves in the air and land on their feet like a cat. Teams that fling their foxes the highest in the air get the most points. Inevitably the animals end up tired and they fall hard breaking their legs or necks when they slam into the ground and the game is over.
@rcljr Sometimes they would get bit by the animals, but yeah it was mainly the smaller ones… It was pretty popular 300 to 400 years ago. When it started to waiver in popularity they started wearing costumes and doing dramatic theater as part of the game to try to keep it interesting much like the NFL with their pink uniforms and BLM emotional kneeling. That’s when you know a sport is dead, when they stray from the purity of the sport. I see the parallels… Sports come and go. Football is on the way out.

The national anthem is arguably outdated and does not represent every American. This song is inclusive of everyone, ie the title: lift every voice and sing. If you hate it that is fine, and you are not alone in that notion. But there are far more people who do not share your view and think the song is fine.
@HollyK21 It is a tradition to play the Star Spangled Banner before sporting events. It is also a tradition that everyone stands and removes all headgear. Erasing our traditions is a slap in the face to all our veterans and all the people that worked hard for the last 250 years to make America the greatest country in history.
