When Did Mainstream Media Become Anti-Republican?

I think it started with the election of 1960. Eisenhower was too popular for the mainstream media to not support him, so it remained neutral in the elections of 1952 and 1956. But Nixon did not know how to manage the media. he already presented an unlikeable persona, and Kennedy and his wife were the darling couple of the illuminati, so it started playing favorite with the election of 1960. The media didn't like LBJ but Goldwater came off as an extremist so it supported LJ in the 1964 election. LBJ managed the Vietnam War horribly and pissed off most people who met him, but he didn't run for re-election in 1968; his VP, Hubert Humphrey was the Democrat nominee. Nixon was running again so the MSM supported HHH, but Nixon won.
Before the 1972 election, news of the Watergate break-in and suspicions of a cover-up were already well established, so the MSM has no choice but to support George McGovern, who lost in a landslide despite the Watergate news dominating the press coverage. Nixon subsequently resigned and his VP, Gerald Ford, became the president. Ford immediately pardoned Nixon and sealed Ford's fate.
In the 1976 election, Jimmy Carter ran against Ford. Carter was a man on absolute integrity and honor and the country was quite disgusted with politics, so Carter won election, and went on to become one of our worst presidents ever.
That was five elections in a row and it was sufficient to set the course for the next fifty years.
I am not a professional historian, but that is the perspective of someone who lived through all of that.
Yes, they were against him, but he was a very likeable guy. Reagan ran against Carter in 1980 and Carter had done so miserably in his first term that the support from the traditional Democrat establishment was lukewarm. Reagan had a good first term and was challenged by Mondale (Carter's VP) in the 1984 election. At that time, Reagan was the oldest man to ever serve as president, and age started to become an issue. This is how Reagan handled that.

That gives you an idea of how Reagan disarmed many of his opponents, but by this time, the MSM was too entrenched in the left to switch their allegiance. Since that time, of course, the MSM has been fueled with absolute hatred for Republicans and conservatives.
You think they treated Trump badly? They treated Reagan 1000% worse.
You are not only not a historian, Your characterization of mainstream media of the 60's and 70's is just some crap you're making up.
Ronnie was a horrible person and a horrible president.
Nixon and Bush 41 both decried trickle-down economics.(something the GOP hopes no one remembers).
For the last 50 years, the GOP built itself up with lies, pandering to evangelicals, villainous attacks on human rights and needed social programs through careful cultivation of racism, and white privilege. They also blocked every piece of good liberal proposals made in congress.
@AHary
1. Is it possible that you are biased in your evaluations of all the participants you mentioned?
2. You are 32 years old. The first president you remember is probably Bill Clinton. Your understanding of the history before that era is secondhand and, even if it wasn't biased, I would not afford it much weight.
I studied poli-sci, economics, sociology, philosophy, and history at a Big Ten university. My pursuits for knowledge has often led to study Nixon, Regan, Bush 41, and Clinton. I am vary open to learning from the facts and science present behind any opinions on issues
You don't know me.
@AHary You probably studied poli sci at some left-leaning indoctrination center masquerading as a university, and you shold be very, very aware of the ills of revisionist history. If you want to see things in a biased manner, that is your right, but a bright person would be intellectually honest about that.
"Your characterization of mainstream media of the 60's and 70's is just some crap you're making up." No, not at all! I read the newspapers daily when they were a source of news in the 1960s and 1970s. I watched the nightly news on the networks because that is what was available and that is what everyone else was watching. I have THOUSANDS of hours watching that stuff. If you want to dismiss my opinions as fabrications simply because that is an easy way for you to avoid responding to the merits, go for it, but. . . res ipsa loquitur.
As soon as Trump started demanding that Obama show proof of him being born American, that set a domino effect that carried over in to when he made the announcement that he was running for president. That essentially started a war between the left and the right.
Now, because of Trump, everyone assumes that anyone on the Republican side supports his ghastly horrid comments that he constantly made. It's going to take another great Republican president that has great charisma (kind of like Obama was for the Democrats) to change people's views of Republicans. Until then, Republicans are kind of stuck with the stigma of that mess Trump created.
Had Trump kept his big mouth shut, stayed off social media and focused on the policies instead of constantly running his mouth, none of this would have ever happened.
And no, I am not a Democrat, I hold no allegiance to any political parties, therefore I have no political bias. (In other words, I don't have a dog in this fight) This is just what I have witnessed.
Mainstream media has always been heavily bias, but it goes both ways.
During the Obama administration

Maybe you haven't noticed, but the Republican Party has been doing some really nasty shit in the past 20 years. I'm not saying the Dems aren't either, so don't nuts right wingers, but the Repubs are MUCH better at generating propaganda and spreading than the Dems. My current favorite example are the idiot Republican Senators who say that Jan. 6th was " just another tourist day at the Capitol". Apparently, they can't even admit there was violence despite hundreds and hundreds of videos, a few deaths, and many injured and hospitalized. I mean seriously... these folks are fit to be in the Legislature.
However, we should be able to acknowledge that lies are lies, and bullshit is bullshit, no matter which "party" it comes from. If you're truly interested in the subject, there are quite a few books available about it, which you can easily find on Amazon.
I wonder if the down votes come because people don't know it's true and don't like the answer? Any Senator or Representative who can look at the Capitol Insurrection and say " there was no violence, it was just another day", is mentally incompetent and should be removed. Anyone who agrees with those Legislators is simply an idiot, and a blind one at that. I guess seeing it on hundreds of videos doesn't mean shit to them.
Liberals in 2021 have one problem. THEMSELVES, they opinions are in line w how they want themselves to be perceived. They are not willing to take RISK in principle, they just want to virtue signal to Maintenance a Persona cloked by SELF ESTEEM and the lack thereof. It has become the a crutch. Historic issues that once were profound such, equal rights, free speech , no war have been replaced BY superficial issues of RACE & GENDER. Most of their time is spent on social media, Starbucks and the like. On occasion, they will venture into traffic, or join a "PEACEFUL" protest where the main purpose is to ACCOST the innocent or disrupt the lives of responsible AMERICANS. Most are emotional MIDGETS. "THEY ARE WHAT THEY PROFESS TO OPPOSE". BIG GOVT, CENSOR SPEECH, RACIST, IRRESPONSIBLE, DIRELECT... I have lost any and all respect for the now CANCEROUS IDEOLOGY.
By the nature of the press should be antagonistic with every elected official. That's the whole point of freedom of the press and the first amendment. The press are independent from the government and reports on their coming and goings for the American people. It's a checks and balances keeping America safer.
Calling the press enemies is dangerous and makes America less safe. So when the don says "fake news" every time something he did is antiamarican.
The secret to good PR and media relations is to get them on your side and be forthright. Try to treat them like shit, and your own conspiracy army, and you'll be treated with Trump style derision.
Republicans are like QAnon on steroids. They believe their own bullshit, and expect no one to question it.
They're not anti-Republican, they're anti-populist. I don't know if you've noticed, but the corporate press has been jerking off the likes of George Bush and Mitt Romney for a while now, while doing their best to smear Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard. Anyone who goes against the monoparty is to be rendered untouchable.
I don't believe they're anti-Republican. I think they're pro-money, at any cost
They will sell their country down the river for the right price. If China paid the media to hate Democrats, they'd switch tomorrow, and not look back. That goes the same for the Hollywood crowd. If the movie-going public stopped watching their liberal agenda movies, they'd switch over night to making conservative movies.
In modern times. Hollywood started out controlled by Conservatives, then liberals took Hollywood over. Half the reporters were Conservative. David Brinkely was a Republican and he was a lead anchor. Now you would have no chance if Conservative , getting job in media. No even Fox is really Conservative.
Not *always* but I'd say from roughly the Johnson presidency onward they have generally given preferential treatment for the left, but it got much more vicious towards the end of the Bush-43 presidency, roughly from Hurricane Katrina onward.
I think they've always been. They're just more open and shameless about it now.
The Commies took over so they can implement their NEW WORLD ORDER
Before Trump ran in 2015. I was with them when dubya was fuckin up shit in Iraq and when his daddy did in 1991! Probably after Reagan rolled out.
Mainstream media isn't anti GOP. But they are pro democracy and pro constitution.
Then why are they supporting those who are currently violating the Constitution with impunity, right out in the open?
@AdmiralSirJohn How are "they" violating the constitution?
Well, let's see. They're violating the First Amendment by limiting the size of gatherings, they're violating the Fifth Amendment with the lockdowns, they're violating the Tenth Amendment by usurping what should be done at the state level, or more property, by the decision of each person.
Shall I go on?
Nope, I voted for McCain and Romney , I couldn't understand Obama's cockiness
Around 2015-2016 when the republican party became a party of lunatics.
Since I've been alive
It's been this way for at least a half a century.
It's been this way since Colonial times. You think it's nasty now, you should read some of the newspapers from the early 1800's...
So you don't consider Fox News mainstream?
They’ve always been liberal biased
They always have been.
Since trump ran to bring power back to the people.
LOL!
I'd say it started with the Vietnam war.
Isn't Fox, republican?
They're just as much democrat as republican. Doubt me? Try watching it for a full 24 hours.
Riiighhhtttt
Near the end of the Osama years.
Yes, pretty much always been that way.
They have been for at least 30 years
Never
