Why do schools punish someone in a fight who is defending themself?

Are people really expected to let themselves get beaten and suffer possible severe injuries instead of protecting themselves?

My granddaugher age 9 just got supended from school. She kept telling the teacher, teacher did nothing. So my daughter went to school and rasied hell. Still nothing, So I told my grand daughter to beat the shit out that little punk if he kept on hitting her.

She went after him like a windmill in tornado and beat the hell out of the kid that kept hitting her since school started. She gave that bully a black eye and a fat lip

Now she the one in trouble, but I bet that kid will never pick on

This happened me all the time. Everyone at school looked down at me because i was the only christian in the whole school and many just wanted to beat me up. The more i tried to explain the more they punish me 🤷‍♂️. So! True story here that am kind of proud about and traumatized, i was 12 years old and i was just mad and angry because i could't take that shit anymore. 4 kids started calling me names, i punch the first kid, multiple times, broke his nose, blood every where. The other 3 where hitting me too, all i remember is i was fighting back, so i ended up beaten all 4 kids, one with broken nose, another with a broken jaw. The next day, their older brothers came to fight me, both were 17, i got my ass handed ti me but they got whipped too and what happens next! Got suspended for a whole month, i asked the teacher: what about the other pussies i beat up? She just looked at me and said : all of you christians will end up in hell. Since that day, no one ever fuck'd with me at that school.

I have always disagreed with that policy. When it happened to one of my students for fighting back I called his parents on my own to let them know he wasn't at fault at all and the other kid had been bullying people for a long time without punishment by the school. I suggested he get no punishment at home. I also told the student that he did the right thing punching the other one because the school would do nothing.

I am not certain if this is accurate and all places I honestly believe it depends on the school and of course the individual's parents. I personally know that I would not accept my child being harmed or punished for defending themselves if they not contribute to the violence but were victims of violence.
I remember one time getting into a fight at the school bus stop I was shoved against a shops wall and window. The individual swung at me I doubt they grabbed me by the collar and were shoving me repeatedly against the wall I then found an opening and need them in the stomach and then knocked them down to the floor and I left the school did not reprimand me at all. In fact the teachers clearly stated it was self-defense the individual who attacked me was extemporarily expelled for 3 days and how to do detention on the weekend.

So the issue is who they are to believe I work in a school and have seen it although I don't work with the kids from the teachers perspective when they see a fight happening all they see is two kids fighting they don't know the reason or the why just two people going at it once they break it up and ask questions on what happened in most cases it always lands on a he said she said with friends of both kids taking sides on who started it in which case both get punished or 1 side its unfortunate but not much they can do unless they find out who the aggressor was

Oh in that case she got suspended for attacking a child yes she may have had reason but what she did still broke the rules it fixed her issue but it dont take away that schools attempt to teach that vigilante justice is still wrong same way if someone thretaned me or hit me so next week I ran up in his house and beat the shit out of him the police could arrest me for assault

So wait, this kid was hitting her and HE didn't get in trouble? Not when your granddaughter told the teacher? Or when your daughter tried to address the problem? But SHE got in trouble for hitting him? Yeah that's bullshit!! I'd file a complaint with the school board about the way the school handled (or didn't handle) this situation..

I spent a lot of time in both out of school and in school detention for fighting. In general I wanted to be left alone and the fights where against people that wouldn't do so. Many times the kids where bullying myself and others. So the school staff knew what they where doing.

I think the school staff get caught in the middle. Glad that someone is standing up to the bullies and secretly cheering them on. But they still have to answer to higher up's. So they have to give someone standing up for themselves some kind of punishment.

Easier than having a school legal system review every case, I guess. I heard some schools have student run court systems but I never saw one. When I was a kid you wouldn't necessarily get into trouble. Way more likely you'd get in trouble if people outside of the school saw you fighting than if it was limited to a fight inside of school. If you made peace with the other person they'd let it slide. If you really hated each others guts you'd get in more trouble. Smart people would fight off school premises to avoid the hassle of school officials getting involved.

I mean, I guess they’re just trying to be universal in the punishment so they can’t be accused of taking sides, or make the wrong call based on erroneous information. Same thing happens in hockey. A guy can jump you (I guess they do get 2 extra minutes for instigating, so not a perfect example), but if you do anything other than turtle up and take the beating with your gloves still on, you get 5 minutes for fighting, even if it was really 5 minutes for receiving a beating, haha.

The good news is: one thing I’ve learned in life is that, as an adult, nothing that happens between K-12 in school matters a damn lick other than information you were taught. I remember being told things would go on my “permanent record”, lmfao, I can count on my fist the number of times that’s ever come back to bite me😂😂😂

It’s worth it even if you get in trouble for it because that’s the only thing that works but their logic sucks so you have to fight back anyway whether you get in trouble or not, it’s a repeating cycle of life, there will always be bullying no matter how many laws or rules they make and fighting back is all that works
