1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Most education and academia-based jobs are held by very far left-leaning people, who are morally bankrupt. And with no moral foundation, what is "right" changes second-by-second with whatever is most convenient at the time.
If one kid is bullying another kid, they consider what they should do, and without that solid moral foundation, it becomes "If I punish the bully, then the school has to admit and have a record of a bully problem, which has negative consequences for the school and possibly to me directly, AND we're likely to have to deal with angry parents who are themselves bullies. Naa... it's not worth it."
And if the kid being bullied fights back, then THAT kid MUST be punished, because at that point, word is going to get around that he was involved in a fight, and fights can't be tolerated at school (especially when word gets around). That would make the school look bad.
In other words, it's complete Clown World in most schools (public AND private) today, and don't even start me with universities, which are so far beyond absurd most people wouldn't actually believe it unless they witnessed it themselves - and maybe not even then.
This was true even in the 80s. I was bullied in school, and when I finally fought back, I was punished by the school - with one exception being my PE teacher, who let me beat the shit out of the kid who bullied me for about 5 minutes before "punishing me" by making me take a lap. He also pointed out to the bully's friend, who was complaining about the mess I made of the bully, that "he (meaning me) shoulda beat him up months ago." I'm pretty sure the bully never looked in my direction again, and he didn't make the jump from Junior High to High School, so either he moved or he went to continuation school.

1 ySometimes the victim is less of a victim than they make themselves out to be.
I went to school with a kid who was a total brat. Always starting shit with people. He got cancer in the 5th grade and hid it from everyone until his hair fell out.
He started acting out in class and turning into a class clown. But the school would always come to his defense and the teachers were all working hard to make things easier for him without letting anyone know about his condition.
I imagine most of the meetings with other kids parents must have felt like impossible moral dilemmas.
By the time we graduated high school, he was a nice guy. Charismatic, popular and a happy person.
He died a couple years after we graduated. I feel good for him because he really changed. It was like he was born to learn some kind of life lesson and he did it before time ran out. I often wonder how his story would have changed if it weren't for the school looking out for him so many years ago.

1 yI'm pretty sure this happens in the West. Bullying is severe out there and there are cliques. Here in India, people are busy trying to ace competitive exams. You need a good rank in order to apply to a prestigious college. Most students commit suicide due to poor grades instead of bullies. It's interesting how people's priorities are different. I have seen bullies getting punished severely out here. From what I've seen in the documentaries and movies, I can tell that bullies like Natalie Viscuso have a better life than innocent individuals in the West. We are talking about a society that glorifies physical appearance above all else (not that all bullies are beautiful but they're somehow considered superior). As an Indian, I have been bullied only on the internet and I'm appalled if that's how that society is. They mercilessly bullied Lizzie Velasquez while in my country men marry acid attack victims.
I remember becoming popular in school and college whenever I scored well. People are different here. Overpopulation makes it necessary to be competent and skilled. Westernisation is taking place but it will take decades for our society to lose morals and worship bullies who dye their hair blonde.

I hope it stops and reverses to be honest. I love India and I’d hate for them to follow in other countries’ footsteps. They think they have stuff wrong and it’s only the economy but they handle this well with helping the young become educated. Best grades and classes. They shouldn’t feel any need to copy or adopt any trends. I hope somehow India stays preserved. I always saw them as the eastern side of the world version of Native Americans. The historical ones who occupied the land before the English Americans came over.
Anyways. They’re much more advanced than the native Americans but have a beautiful respect for wildlife and their families and neighbors and spirituality. The culture and its practices may sometimes seem harsh or impractical to some I don't know
But it’s quite beautiful and beautiful if some practice or the people practice some if not every single type of practice or tradition.
It’s just so beautiful I will miss the people of classic India.
It’s an amazing place
I just want to see the people do better and continue to love their culture. They aren’t prejudice much to outsiders I feel but they don’t have to make India only outsiders and the outside ways
I don't know if I am saying it right but
I always had a special place in my heart for India Indians and Indian culture.
The languages the people the song the architecture relics and such.
Even the religion. So much like a painting but so precise because of their mathematic and educated nature as well.
A cube with many smaller cubes
And a a singular dice / die with many sides.
A cuisine with many aromas
And a painting with many colors
A book with many stories.
India is so gorgeous. Lovely. Beautiful. - 1 y

You opened this up so now I am going to hit you hard, because effectively you are bullying us. The west doesn't prioritize physical beauty, we talk of nothing more than ending female objectification and sexual harrassment. Meanwhile in India more than half of kids are molested. Indians have high scores because there is a lot of cheating there. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-68225643 www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8445113/

1 yThe best thing you can do for a bullying victim is to teach him to defend himself.
I don’t know about you guys, but I am not going to protect my child from a bully, I am going to teach him to kick his ass and dance his fist on his nose the way that he will never want to bully anyone ever again.
The best thing my parents did for me, is that they weren’t overprotective of me.
I had birthmarks everywhere on my face, I was a strange child and an A student, nobody has ever tried to bully me.
Because they knew I meant trouble.
I am the trouble you never want to come across.
That’s the attitude bullying victims should have, along with the tough skin not to let anyone’s words affect their self-esteem.

1 yIt’s a popularity contest. Nobody cares when the unpopular weaklings get thrown down the stairs. But when they fight back and the star quarterback gets hurt, or the pretty cheerleader’s face gets messed up, suddenly there’s a problem!
It’s worth noting that only stunted personalities become teachers and administrators. If you went through skool and failed to recognize the deeply toxic environment and didn’t do everything in your power to get far away and never go back, you wouldn’t see anything wrong with childhood bullying, would you? You glamorized it and made choices to deliberately get right back in the mix of it. How is that mindset going change things for the better?41 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)1 yUltimately this is a part of growing up, every kid has to learn to stand up to bullies on their own, not have teacher's intervene.
There will be bullies all your life, the adult bullies thou generally less violent are more harmful if you don't stand up to them.29 Reply- 1 y
Entirely false. Whenever a bullied kid rises up and protects himself or herself, THAT is what results in administrative action, lawsuits and even news headlines. Nobody cares about the weaklings getting victimized until they victimize the golden children in return. It’s a sick popularity game and had nothing to do with natural order or justice.
Opinion Owner1 y@deserter2 @chazmatazz269 In both of your assertions you have provided no conquer evidence of a uniform pattern of this behavour. Without examples I cannot speculate as to the prefrence for one side or the other.
We would have to assume its he said she said, or observational bias as a teacher is far less like to see the first hit than the 2nd in a fight.
Opinion Owner1 y@deserter2 There is no case to discuss. Only a hypotheses about a yet to be demonstrated general pattern.
Opinion Owner1 yThen share this pattern or at least cases making for said pattern
1 yThey did when I was a kid, but now they seem to really take such matters seriously. Then again it could just be me. They would basically encourage bullies. I saw some shit when I was a kid. I get in a fight with a black kid... no punishment at all.. can't punish the black kids, so I got off defacto... any other kids though... expelled or suspended (usually in-house suspension). But they never tried to stop the fights. It was like a prison. Again it could just be me.
I found out my kid was getting bullied and I called the principal, I told her I was going to murder the other kid's parents unless something is done. Sure I got reported... but I stayed firm and told the police, "If it doesn't stop, I will kill that kid's parents."
The problem got fixed. When I was a kid they never solved shit. It's usually an easy fix, but they just don't do shit.

1 yBecause you as the victim are supposed to sympathize with the fact that the bully has shit parents instead of beating the pos within an inch of his life so he learns that bullying others is not acceptable. I did all the right things to try and get it to stop no dice. I beat one so damn bad then told him if I ever saw him I again i would murder his entire family. He was in the hospital for about 2 months and then switched schools. His family tried to press charges until my parents had lawyers drop months of evidence of assault and abuse on that pos and threatened to sue the school for having done nothing. School tried correcting there mistakes. Lawyers went ahead with the lawsuit and added bribery to the charges. All the teachers had to go through some lessons on how that situation should never have happened and in the future if a child is being bullied and it is brought up they have a legal responsibility to handle it.

1 yNo idea. It's a big problem in Europe. Which even have caused a lot of suicides, children becoming aggressive and even children bringing weapons such as knifes to school to defend themselves. I truly don't understand why school always protects the bulliies while there is almost always evidence. I was bullied a lot as well by one kid whose parents where big sponsors of the school, so their kid had a free-pass otherwise the parents would pull back the money. Now that very same kid is a drug addict and steals a lot.

They do not want controversy, law suits, newspaper headlines or anything else that might rock the boat. It is easier to bury their heads in the sand and pretend the whole thing is not really happening.

Anonymous(18-24)1 yExactly. Those schools are shit. Seeing those kind of situations in high school makes me.. 🙄 Staffs would be highly concerned at the bully and not the one being bullied. They will be curious about why the bully became a bully, and then forget the victim. I am from another country, but I know this happens a lot around the world.
10 ReplyI've come to the inevitable conclusion that the reason is due to the fact that the vast majority of schools, both public and private, are run by deranged psychopaths who enjoy watching pain and torture. What other reason for this could there be? It makes NO sense!

Anonymous(30-35)1 yI feel it's because the bully does small things even if they're everyday and because they're small they pass by. (Just like a kid getting abused by parents. If they're small bruses, no one suspects anything or even if they see them, they let it pass by cause it's not something big)
But the bullied will accumulate over time anger and shit and will erupt like a volcano, meaning he's gonna do something big to retaliate, to release all the anger, which doesn't compare to the small things the bully does.
So the school compares the small things the bully did (or they won't because they might not get through to them because they're small) against the ONE SINGLE BIG thing the bullied did (which of course it's gonna be noticeable)
That's why they protect the bully.
At least that's my take on it.00 Reply- 5.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
1 yMany teachers view the bully as a child who needs help. They may have inferiority complexes, been abused at home, or other psychological issues. The victim is often just a bystander.
I'm not saying it's right but I can understand why a teacher might want to help the bully.

1 yFirst thing they teach you and the last thing they teach you in school admin classes (I'm a teacher I speak from experience) is this one question: "Is it actionable?" AND EVERYTHING ELSE FLOWS FROM THERE! We are so terrified of being sued that we are paralyzed in our policies. Sorry but that's the truth.

15 ReplyI don’t think schools were always so focused on things like therapy but they do try to deescalate situations. It’s like trying to contain something potentially dangerous instead of trying to comfort someone. The comfort should really come from the parents and within the home.

Sorry. Just seemed like a weird question. My school has a zero tolerance policy for bullying and enforces it almost too harshly.

@deserter2 no need to be a bully yourself. That kind of talk is unnecessary. She didn’t even seem to push any agenda. So consider rethinking how you respond to others. Especially someone saying they’re still in highschool and they don’t THINK. Not some obnoxious
“They KNOW.” Sort of talk.
I don’t know if you were bullied maybe by the context of the question and also it’s not uncommon some have experienced it either firsthand or secondhand at some point. Or witnessed it. But no need to repeat bad behaviors. Learn to explain yourself more on subjects if you feel someone is messing with your context of things. Don’t just resort to name calling. That’s childish and she’s not even doing that and that’s what it appears that you’re doing and you’re older. So come on. 🤷♀️
Have a nice day - 1 y
@WhitneySnow It's ok, sorry. But the zero tolerance thing kinda proves my point, you shouldn't be penalized for fighting back
Because the teachers usually like the bullys, don’t want to get on that kids bad side or they don’t like the kid that’s being bullied. I remember this one kid who was a total spaz. So many people picked on him. The teachers just gave up on trying to protect him.
