I explained in greater detail on the same question posted by someone else before that the US government right now would most likely not engage China over Taiwan. It would have no choice when Japan and/or South Korea as well as Australia get involved though, which would absolutely happen. At that point it wouldn't be *impossible* for the US to abandon them too, but it's much less likely.
