I don't have the words to express my revulsion. A few years ago when he first did the whole "Apprentice" thing I enjoyed it because I was under the impression that the personality he put across was a scripted caricature.
As the show went on and I saw how he treated people of colour and women I lost respect for him very quickly. His comments about grabbing women's genitalia and being allowed to simply because of his "success" was repugnant. I didn't think it could get worse.
Then his disrespectful treatment of a Gold Star family, his bullying stupidity at the UN and G8 meetings he went to, his treatment and statements regarding John McCain after it was so apparent that his cowardice and daddy's money bought him a pass from service I again thought it couldn't get worse.
Colin Powell was a great leader. He had his flaws as all of us do, yet he always came across with dignity and showed true moral character.

The Western forces - not just America remember - were fed bad intelligence about WMD in Iraq. The whole war was based on Iraqi revolutionaries wanting to get out from under Saddam Hussein's rule. Powell and the other allied commanders weren't the ones ultimately that made the call to fight. That decision was made by the presidents and prime ministers of the allied nations based on bad Intelligence.
That story just isn't true though. "Bad intelligence" won't cover it, because they were actually given GOOD intelligence by the U. N. weapons inspectors who were sent into Iraq and who tried to tell everyone that Saddam Hussein didn't have WMD's. They were unceremoniously withdrawn (not "kicked out") of Iraq because there was a Neo-Con agenda to invade and remove the Iraqi leader and his B'aath Party ministers. The West wanted a new, puppet regime in Baghdad, and lying was something they were willing to do in order to achieve that.
That still wasn't Powell's call. The decision to take military action was made by the political leaders at the time in their capacity as "leaders" of their respective nations. And remember, it wasn't the allied forces that executed Saddam. It was Iraqis.
The Kurds in Iraq are still as oppressed by the new regime as they were under Saddam. Nobody has done anything to seriously help them.
Colon Powell was a difficult man to pin down. He was no doubt extremely smart and an extremely talented statesman. He has made many, many grave mistakes in his life though that has cost the lives of many people. Unlike most people, I still remember the real Iraq and Saddam Hussein. Iraq War 2 may have been a debacle in the way it was reasoned out. It was fought on a false premise and with an aimless objective. Proving once again illustrating that war is not a tool that can be used for good. However, if anybody thinks that war with Iraq would not have happened otherwise, they are massively mistaken. I don't care to get into all the details, but Hussein violated every condition of the peace treaty from the first war, was a massive antagonist and a massively destabilizing force in the region. War was coming to Iraq sooner or later. But certainly, the bureaucrats could not have done a worse job initiating and conducting the war. War is not a decision to be made lightly and when you do finally decide to go to war, there is always one objective, destroy your enemy fully to the point they can never make war on you again. Anything short of that is a waste of time, lives and money.

Furthermore, if they were not true, the Colin Powell would have sued CNN for libel, slander, and defamation. But he didn't because it's true. One should be careful of course when assessing the information they get from any source. And, as far as I am concerned, CNN does have liberal media bias. But bias in news media reporting doesn't make their reporting false. Indeed, news media have to be careful because there ARE lawsuits related to libel, slander, defamation, etc. Happens all the time.
In this particular case, it just happened to be CNN doing the Powell interview, but it doesn't matter. There's a video recording of the interview and a transcript. If anything was false or doctored, there'd have been a lawsuit. There hasn't been and that interview is over a year old.
Anyway, yes, one should check the quality of the source of their information. So, you may wish to check on various media bias checking sites. When Obama was elected, Powell turned his back on Republicans and fell in with all the liberal ideas Obama pushed. Effectively, for the Republican party, Powell was a turncoat. He was, as Trump correctly pointed out a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

Powell was a great guy and I wished he ran for President but he said he wouldn’t put his family through that. He did indeed make the case for war based on Weapons of Mass Destruction. But that was due to ridiculously bad intel from the CIA from an African scam for money if I remember right.
