Richard "Dick" Cheney died on Monday 3rd of Novemeber 2025 in his house in McLean, Virginia (southern suburb of DC) of pneumonia and vascular disease. He was 84 years old.
Cheney was born in 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska, and moved to Wyoming as a teenager. He served as White House chief of staff from 1975 to 1977. In 1978, he was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives, and represented Wyoming's at-large congressional district from 1979 to 1989, briefly serving as House minority whip in 1989. He was appointed Secretary of Defense during the presidency of George H. W. Bush, and held the position from 1989 to 1993. As secretary, he oversaw Operation Just Cause in 1989 and Operation Desert Storm in 1991. In 2000 he was picked as the presidential Republican nominee George Bush as his vice presidential nominee. The Bush-Cheney ticket won the election in 2000 and was reelected in 2004. He was also considered to be one of the main architects of the Iraq War. He is often considered one of the most powerful and influential vice presidents in USA history.
