I think it's going to go like anything else that we have seen in recent times. The law does provide exception to rifles, for hunting reasons and he wasn't concealing the weapon, he doesn't need a concealing carry permit, just a carry permit, which he had.

Again, as I said, with the law, the permission is for owning and carrying a gun because kids hunt. You are allowed to use a hunting weapon for self defense and there's no law saying you have to explain what you are going to do when carrying a weapon you have a license to carry.
No, the spirit of the law includes an exception to rifles because kids use it to hunt. Just like the spirit of the law doesn't ban guns for entertainment, collection purposes, etc.
