No, your beliefs and morals influence the type of policies you will agree with. The political parties may or may not align with those beliefs. You don’t have to identify with either party and can still retain certain beliefs of both or neither. The party system is a complete joke and scam.
And your beliefs and morals influence the party you align yourself with. I agree the party systems a joke but that’s mostly cause it’s a two party system that doesn’t spotlight any other parties so people usually only decide between the two even if both are horrible
Yes but they just mostly serve to cause division and the people in the middle are left unheard. Both parties are closed minded if you think about it, they both believe they are right and the other is wrong. In the end it all comes down to the individual. You can be conservative and be open minded they are not mutually exclusive. There are many factors that go into it.
There's no use in trying to convince you your a dirty liberal.
Your pro-abortion Pro teen pregnancy Pro child sex change Pro illegal immigration Pro take guns away Pro not telling oeople if you have disease Your probably pro- child toucher Pro all white people are racist
Everyone eventually goes "conservative" as they age. It's human nature to pearl clutch as you get older, until you reach a point where you're no longer "progressive" but "conservative".
Nearly every liberal today will be a conservative in a couple of decades, and every conservative will be dead. The next generation will be the ones who will call themselves liberal and so the cycle goes.
Kind-of. Conservatives today are probably slightly less likely than their parents to call black people niggers, or beat up gay people (they'll reserve that for the trans community). It's very slow progress.
you were closed minded.. so what. I remember when I was open to the idea that the U. S could have a population the size of china.. but I was 17 in university at the time.. and a women laid out why that was bad news very bluntly.. yeah we don't make $2 a day either.. boom , realized conservative is the way to go. im a libertarian.. but I am voting conservative every single fucking time. until being liberal is not retarded.
There's something about anger and uptightness which tends now to put me off. If people on either side are scorning, as if the world would be bliss if we could just get rid of x group, then I pretty much know they're not worth listening to. Whatever evils exist in the world, they're within all of us, not in some outside or opposite group. Whatever battle we need to fight, is only ever within ourselves.
It’s easier to feel safe when you try to feel like you already understand everything. Being open to change is being open to the possibility which you were wrong about something which scares most people as it feels like an unstable way to live.
In a conservative's brain. You either have to have the same opinion or your a piece of shit or "woke". I don't know they make America look pretty bad tho
The very definition of conservative is someone who wants to “conserve” or maintain traditional values. Therefore, an open minded conservative would be an oxymoron
Well if u r trying to conserve something u r literally trying to keep it the same… so it would b ridged that being said the conservative side of the isle I think has move a great deal toward being much more libertarian… which is where I find myself🤷♂️
In my opinion not really. They support liberty and autonomy but only for groups of people they agree with. A lot of conservatives don’t support lgbtq, abortion, and what not which doesn’t make sense if they are more libertarian. They only support liberty within their own narrow view of what they believe is freedom
My whole family is very conservative… and I’m only speaking from anecdotal evidence here… as it seems u are… and these people have moved mountains from where they were to where they are🤷♂️ My views haven’t really changed much since I was early 20’s… but when your right the first time y would u change 💁♂️🤪🤪
Same could be said for left wingers or democrats, both essentially live in an echo chamber of what they agree with. Nothing wrong with that but don't generalize when both sides essentially do the same thing. Only thing I will say is ones silenced more than the other and I know we can all guess what side.
Coming from leftists who literally are advocating for censorship, destroying careers and even lives for an opinion, that's funny. There's nothing more close minded than a leftist, even more an American one. You literally created woke culture and successfully bring back tolerated racism and sexism, and even call for segregation.
Who are you referring to “you” are you forgetting all the conservatives that have voted against lgbtq rights or the ones that continue to advocate against them till this day. The conservatives that cancelled covid and believed s hoax about it being a bio medical weapon, the conservatives that as far as I’m concerned only support freedom when it’s something you agree with because you’re so sensitive everything other than a copy paste version of your own reflection scares you?
Conservatives love to act like they’re the party of logic, facts, and liberty when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Sure thing kiddo, it's still more liberty than what leftists allow, since the only liberty you accept is the liberty to think, do and say what you tell people to. If they don't, doesn't matter who they are, you'll rain fire on them and do everything you can to shut them up, including ruining their careers, their lives and their families. The "tolerant" side always talking about race, gender, putting people in cases even against their will and won't accept if they refuse, advocating for censorship and criminalizing any different opinion, and always ready to change even history to fit their narrative. The tolerant side who is in fact so racist, sexist and violent that it makes hillbillies look like peaceful hippies. Don't talk about logic, when your side only act on emotion, ban words and ideas because it "offends" people, and justify any violence as long as it's against someone you hate.
Well, I don't agree with you. All the examples or videos that you have posted seems to me like click bait that every other youtuber uses on there channel. I don't think they have closed mind or if you could have pointed me to some instances and I could have agreed with you. I mean many might have but, Ben and Steven Crowder are some of the good guys on the right side of the ile. I try to discuss things one on one with people just to know their opinion on things.
I am an open minded person and I accept that everyone has a right to an idea or opinion. I see just as much closedminded behavior from all sides of the political spectrum. The Cancel culture is a liberal phenomenon. Liberals assume that they have moral superiority by their nature and that is a judgement, not a fact. I don't claim to have any superiority. All humans are equal and Facts and truth should prevail.
No ones saying people don’t have a right to an idea or an opinion. All Ideas and opinions are not equal though, not all ideas and opinions are rooted in facts and truth.
Cancel culture also really doesn’t exist, it’s just called internet culture where people jump on a hate bandwagon and soon get over it and go back to supporting said person.
It’s not a unique thing to liberals or the internet.
I respectively disagree. All ideas are equal. Misinformed or not. You are making a judgement based on what you believe to be true. I do extensive research looking for facts. I do not consume, so called news, that is more propaganda than anything else. I consider all social media news as biased, because it is censored for content. There are things happening that you don't even know about because certain platforms hide facts to control the narrative.
What are you even talking about. No one is speaking about the news, I already know the news companies are all biased and naught out by corporations so it’s not like you’re sharing new information.
In fact if you agree than it’s questionable you think all ideas are equal, you obviously disagree with the news being biased and stuff so I don’t understand how that thought process turns into all ideas being equal.
That just isn’t true, there are people who want to murder other people, there are people who believe abusing children is ok, there are people who want genocides to occur.
All Ideas and opinions are no equal and claiming they all are is extremely disingenuous especially if you (I’m assuming) are aware of the harm misinformation and reactionary ideas being spread threw the news can do?
I find that conservatives and 'liberals' are equally closed off. Conservatives are easier to talk with when you disagree. Liberals tend to talk over you, insult, yell, and sometimes get violent. Conservatives encourage debate while liberals will do anything to avoid it
About what subject? Obviously you do (like to change) because you were conservative and changed. So some do. So do some liberals. But all are under mind control. Because it violates what they believe and people don’t like to change…
I don't know I think some of it has to do with age because younger children are more accepting to change but as you get older you start being more judgmental and your mind starts to close
Lol. It’s the same on each end of both parties, you think far left leaning people are so open minded and care to listen what a conservative has to say? They both live in their own bubbles. “I really just hope that more right leaning people could take the time to engage with other beliefs”
The data says the right do this *more* than the left, so what are you even talking about? Your watch history shows that as well. Are you trolling? The right talks to the left, the left doesn’t talk to the right.
I've been following this stuff closely for 7 years, and you can trace the same attitudes back further to Occupy, that's when it first started popping up in the mainstream again. During Occupy it wasn't as bad, certainly many people (myself included) to find the left wasn't *their* left anymore, that there were these toxic illiberal attitudes forming, and it's only gotten worse.
I'm still left-leaning, but I make it a point to distinguish myself from progressives. I'm Liberal as in liberalism, not "US liberal" as in progressives.
The first study didn’t have any leftists in it, It was done on conservatives and liberals and didn’t have a large enough sample size to be accurate enough to make any conclusions. It also was only done on Twitter, a more accurate study would’ve been one getting data on multiple different social platforms. Especially since Twitter isn’t exactly the best place for political discourse.
the second study I can’t read since I need to pay for a subscription and your last study still had nothing to do with leftists.
If you yourself are liberal than you aren’t really left leaning as liberals are centrists. Liberals have always been centrist. At most liberals are center-left. Liberals in the US actually tend to be way more right wing than liberals in other countries.
The actual issue is American media (especially right wing media) that has for years called democrats and liberals radically progressive leftists despite the majority of them actually being centrists or right leaning in their beliefs. This has been done for years so that it’s always Democrats/liberals and conservatives that get the spotlight meanwhile at the same time censoring actual leftist views by trying to paint the centrists as being leftist.
Leftism and liberalism are distinct political categories with different histories.
“The first study didn’t have any leftists in it, It was done on conservatives and liberals and didn’t have a large enough sample size to be accurate enough to make any conclusions.” Liberal means left is the US, you know that. There were 1496 people who self-reported their ideology on an integer scale of 0(liberal) to 100(conversative), people identifying in the lower quintiles can obviously leftists, and the 5th percentile count (in the 0-3 scale range) are obviously very much leftists. And that sample size is perfectly fine, what’s more important is sample selection. If you have a representative sample selection then you could have <20 people and get statistically significant results with t-tests.
“It also was only done on Twitter, a more accurate study would’ve been one getting data on multiple different social platforms.” Of course every study has its limitations, but that doesn’t invalidate the findings.
“Especially since Twitter isn’t exactly the best place for political discourse.” Is there any social media that is *good* for social discourse? And if there is such a thing is that more appropriate to use in a study? Perhaps being “good” makes it less representative. In the end a study on Twitter and a study on another site would both stand alone and have individual merits.
“the second study I can’t read since I need to pay for a subscription and your last study still had nothing to do with leftists.” There were 5 links, if you can’t get onto Rasmussen, fine. But the other 4 all compared left and right.
“If you yourself are liberal than you aren’t really left leaning as liberals are centrists.” Outside the US, yes, I would say that’s partly true. Liberal covers a wide band in the center of the political spectrum. People more on the economic left are Social Liberals, people more on the economic right are Classical Liberals. For years, that’s the bulk of what right and left meant. Only in the last 10 years or so have people become so polarized that they mostly don’t agree, where before they disagreed on things but mostly agreed on many things. So yes, I would be very much center and I agree that leftists (Progressives or anyone more left) are not compatible with my perspective. I’m a liberal on the global scale, I’m not talking about the US there. But it doesn’t matter to me whether I take the tests again and fall slightly on the right, I’m definitely a liberal and definitely find that liberalism is incompatible with progressivism and anything leftward of that. That’s was my point.
“Leftism and liberalism are distinct political categories with different histories.” Historically, leftism is broadly any policies that emphasized a high degree of cooperation, the more “cooperative” the more left. Now, we it’s slightly more confined to economic cooperativeness and the libertarian-authoritarian dimension measures culture separately. Liberalism is a specific political camp which like all camps will have some measure of cooperativeness and competitiveness (as they are typically called) in the economic and cultural dimensions which places it on the spectrum.
“Video” That’s not a great video. He’s making an arbitrary distinction between far-left and social-liberal. Basically, if you’re not “left enough” then you don’t get to call yourself a leftist. Personally, I don’t care too much. Talking about political tribes in terms of left and right is already a complete mess anyway. His hang-ups are just more of the same. It’s typical for *very* lefty people to see anyone to right of them as right-wing or at least not “real” leftists. It doesn’t matter, it’s just people being overly tribal about their labels. Yes, there is a difference between the far-left and the mainstream leftists who like to fancy themselves more left just to push themselves away from the right. That’s all he’s really saying. But he fails to go into any specifics about his beliefs or of that which defines Liberalism. Believe it or not, you didn’t explain it any worse than he did. My advice is don’t get sucked into arbitrary labelling, know *your* beliefs and stand above the label games. Depending on perspective, different people will call me many different things, but that remains true in spite of that is my beliefs. I support individual rights (including civil and human rights), democracy, secularism, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and a market economy. None of that changes no matter what label is slapped on me. This are the markers of liberalism, so I prefer that label, but there’s no sense in getting too hung up on it when people fight over labels.
There are a lot of closed minded people on both sides of the aisle. The only people who believe conservatives are closed minded are liberals, and conservatives think liberals are the ones who are closed minded. They are both equally correct.

Loaded question.
The sooner you stop framing questions with party identity, and focus on policies is when you actually start to become pragmatic.
Left vs right is a construction. Literally there for simpletons to pick a side if they don’t understand the conversation
The party you identify with influences the type of policies you’re going to agree with?
No, your beliefs and morals influence the type of policies you will agree with. The political parties may or may not align with those beliefs. You don’t have to identify with either party and can still retain certain beliefs of both or neither. The party system is a complete joke and scam.

Doopayo I think you’re missing the point.
Party politics is only really useful for identifying/labelling groups. It’s not actually useful for forming your own political opinions.
Again it’s just some pipes have a sense of belonging. And so that people with little understanding can still join in
There's no use in trying to convince you your a dirty liberal.

Because there is no such thing as 'Liberal' and 'Conservatives' fundamentally it is just brainwashing.
Leftists believe any stupid shit. Like 500 genders.
Conservatives believe in the divine right of the free market. Which just enriches the rich.

The thing I was primarily thinking of was the study in the last one, but the link is broken. Basically it pointed out that right leaning people heard from 2/3s rightward sources and 1/3 left, moderates where the opposite of that, and the left listened to almost exclusively left sources.
I've been following this stuff closely for 7 years, and you can trace the same attitudes back further to Occupy, that's when it first started popping up in the mainstream again.
Stop projecting your own biases on others.
