Some of it is as obsessive as you say, but not all of it. For some of us, fandoms are a nice community and distraction from artists who's worked inspired us in some way or gave us nice moments or maybe just because we like their style or personality. For example, the album "rare" by Selena Gomez has nice songs about self love and healing.
I don't worship nor am obsessed with any artist, a fandom is just something I like to participate in once in a while.

Celebrity culture is super boring and obsession over it is stupid. Fans don't treat them like people and some go to insane & mentally insane lengths of obsession over them.
Don't invade their personal lives, let them just be people in public, and thank them for their hard work when you meet them.
