+1 yI mean…there’s a point where anyone can be “too much” about things. But wearing a mask is a politeness issue for me at this point. “Your mask protects me; my mask protects you”, is the underlying principle, whether you believe that or not. But the point is, if you want to have any sort of society, you have to give a shit about everyone else, “individualist society” is an oxymoron. Doing exactly what you want at all times based on your own preferences has to be abandoned for a functional society, it’s not about individuals anymore once you agree to participate in anything cooperative. What we individually “want” should have no bearing on anything.
So all that said, I know there are people out there with reservations about getting vaccinated. I have my feelings about that, but again, what I “want” as an individual is irrelevant and I have no entitlements to what I want. So out of respect for my fellow humans, I will continue to wear a mask, not just during the pandemic, but I’ve decided to adopt the eastern custom of taking it upon myself to wear a mask if I have so much as the common cold, I really respect that level of concern for others around you, despite them being strangers. But as far as the pandemic, I know many people are not getting vaccinated, and even if they are rejecting something that I consider to be sensible, I consider it my duty as a decent human being to continue to protect them, since I could still carry and transmit Covid without even knowing it. And if it gives others peace of mind being around me, that makes me happy too. I’d never know, but I still like to think I’ve done my part to save someone’s life, or at least save them from an unnecessary illness. Not everyone in the world is young, not everyone in the world doesn’t have co-morbidities, not everyone in the world believes in the vaccine…. but none of those people’s lives are any less valuable than another’s. I often want to ask, if someone has something fairly common, like asthma, something that most likely would not kill a person in their lifetime, or if they’re overweight, or if they had diabetes that they could still manage successfully throughout a full life…. exactly how much less on a scale of 1-10 is their life valued than a 30 year old with underlying issues?
Anyway, that’s kind of my feelings on it, but I’m also very committed to minding my own business. It frustrates me that there’s a faction of people who, in my opinion, just want to feel like “the smartest person in the room” and go against the word of pretty much the entirety of the scientific community, minus a few detractors, and/or play tin-foil hat conspiracy theory games where we allege the very medical community that continuously works to improve and prolong our lives (maybe to natural order’s detriment, in my opinion) is all in on some worldwide scheme to control us. 1984 was a work of fiction, it’s important to remember that, guys. Lmfao. I feel like so many people are running around spooked by a novel from their high school summer reading list😂 I actually reread it this summer and was like “holy shit, this is so far out, I can’t believe people legitimately fear this in real life.”🤦♂️ There is no Big Brother, I feel very confident in that…. and even if there is, I’m just a “prol”, man. Inner Party and prols lived pretty good, as I interpreted it, just don’t be in the Outer Party, that’s where they fuck you, lmao.
But anyway, to your main question…. if someone is screaming at you about not wearing a mask, unless you’re in like a hospital or a home for the elderly, flipping out is too heavy of a response.13 Reply- +1 y

"But wearing a mask is a politeness issue for me at this point."
The politeness issue is not respecting other peoples' choices. If people want to wear a mask, let them wear a mask. If they want to get vaccinated, let them get vaccinated. If not, then that's up to them. When you start imposing things on other people, that's when we start to have an issue.
I'm not doing anything just because I've been told to do it, because of social pressure or social stigma. I follow my own conscience. I won't do anything which is harmful to me (which mask wearing is).
Incidentally there's exemptions in the UK if mask-wearing poses a risk of harm to yourself and others (which wearing a mask naturally does). So no one should be wearing a mask really... - +1 y

If some people refuse to wear a face mask when required in a certain establishment or setting then they should be denied service. If they go into a restaurant or another place where a face mask is required then they deserve to be kicked out if they refuse to follow the rules. I'm so sick and tired of these self-entitled people who think they can do whatever they want and get away with their behavior.

Once again you were denying the fact that people who are not wearing masks are actually a danger to others who are including those who are vaccinated and those who are not vaccinated. Your insistence that you have the right to not wear a mask around others is the same thing as insisting that you have a right to drive drunk whenever you feel like it. You don't. Your so-called rights are not more important than others health and well-being despite what you might think.
55 Reply- +1 y
That’s an absolutely outrageous and irrational assertion to compare not wearing a mask to driving drunk. There’s decades of established reasoning why you shouldn’t drive drunk. There’s not a single study on the planet that concludes mask wearing does anything to stop the spread of disease. If there wasn’t all these mandates and fear mongering bullshit going on, most people wouldn’t have the slightest suspicion there’s a highly infectious virus going around.

Millions of dead people and multiple studies showing that wearing a mask reduces infections, and you want to take the word of Youtube scammers and Trump. Pathetic. Before it bothered me because why do I need to wear a face mask if they're wearing one? Like doesn't their face mask keep them from being sick? Why does me wearing a face mask keep them from getting sick if they're already wearing a mask?

- +1 y
@MJtheCoach No, it's not. The idea of a mask is to stop you passing on your germs to other people, not to protect you from them (although it might help a bit there, too). You need everybody around you to be wearing one, and so do they. So wear one! (At least indoors, or in crowded areas; outdoors and well away from anyone else, not so important, but stick to the rules!)
- +1 y
Fuck the rules. They don't make sense. Neither does what you are saying. It sounds silly. The idea of a mask will only work if everyone is sanitizing their hands after touching every single thing that another person touches. Cash would have to stop being used completely. Phones, wallets, bags, keys, etc. Can't be touched without sanitizing afterwards. You'd have to sanitize your hands after every little thing you do or wear gloves and not touch any of your personal belongings or self. Just like they do in the food industry. But people aren't doing that. So germs are still going to be passed a lot. When I touch cash, payment kiosks, door handles, etc the germs are going to pass along. Masks only prevent from germs in the air. And if my germs are in the air, your mask should keep you from breathing them in. My germs may end up on your personal items from breathing, yes. But there are so many more ways that you're going to transfer my germs as well through what you touch. And quite frankly some germs are good. They help keep your immune system strong.
- +1 y
Do you spend a lot of time touching other people's "Phones, wallets, bags, keys"?
Paying by card has really taken off over the last couple of years, but I'm not convinced keypads are safer than cash.
If your germs aren't in the air in the first place (caught by a real mask), we're all much safer. - +1 y
If the vaccines are so effective why do you still want to wear masks as if you don't trust them?
- +1 y
Bing people who wear the masks or get the jabs. Are braindead. They do whatever the masses does. You can’t be logic with them.
+1 yNope. You wear a mask indoors to protect others. Otherwise you can get some people seriously sick, and increase overall breakout infections-which is the reason why mutations are happening so fast. Whether you are vaccinated or not, you are responsible for not being selfish and getting others sick.

01 ReplyNo opinion one way or the other. I'm fairly skeptical about how effective most masks being worn are. None of them protect against Delta from what I understand either. One thing is for sure they are hella uncomfortable. I am vaxxed though and less worried even though they aren't as ideally effective as I'd like. No booster though. Not getting it unless it's provent more effective. I have at risk people around me so I'm obligated tbh. The vax is free so meh.

1311 Reply- +1 y
LOL. The medical community wears them for sterile purposes. To prevent stuff like saliva from getting onto patients. A mask is completely useless in stopping the spread of disease, which is why you see full hazmat suits being worn. The mask is merely a tool being used to promote propaganda. A fear mongering agenda that in actuality is about control and compliance. Try again.

@bingbongbangbung I would try to see that point of view if the comity of experts decided that. I might not respect that when I'm alone as there is no purpose of it. But when they said that it's not good to meet your family because of the risk of infecting them, I didn't meet mine for months.
In this answer I am talking about calming other people as a social thing, not because the mask will make me feel more safe from covid, it will make them feel more safe. @MCheetah That sheet of fabric reduces the chance of spreading covid to others. It's sure does 100 percent work but it does something (https://www. pnas. org/content/118/4/e2014564118). I wear it because of this and know it might just protect that one vulnerable person (immunocompromised etc) from getting covid. But I dont have an all or nothing attitude like yourself Mcheetah and also care deeply for my community.
- +1 y
@MCheetah it sure does spread surface to surface but sadly given the data it is to airborne, or technically travel through aerosolised droplets ([https://www. thelancet. com/article/S0140-6736(21)00869-2/fulltex] thats a good read i must say). I agree, there needs to be more more stringent hand washing sanitisation but unfortunately the best we get are mask mandates. I dont wish antivaxxer get covid, in-fact thats half the reason i support mask mandates, to protect them from themselves. I realise there has been a failure in critical thinking, the education system and poor fact checking measures which has led to the thought pattern of anti-vaxxers/authority/mandates. But then again, maybe we could use a bit of natural selection aye? ;)
Opinion Owner+1 y@MCheetah A large, randomized placebo controlled study proved masks are effective in preventing the spread of Covid. You can read about it at the links below, including a link to the actual study.

Where’s your randomized, placebo controlled study proving masks are ineffective mr. cheetah guy? Oh, that’s right you don’t have one.
Covid is spread through aerosolized droplets in the air, not through surfaces you ignorant fucking moron. Why do you think doctors wear masks and take precautions against airborne viruses when they’re treating Covid patients in the hospital? Because it’s an airborne virus you stupid motherfucker. www.cdc.gov/.../faq.html

WebMD is not a valid source for providing medical advice, and disregarding others as believing in conspiracy theories was a common tactic the CIA used in the Cold War to discredit whistleblowers.

And discrediting easily debunked conspiracy theorists who peddle lies and offer no facts or evidence to support their bullshit is what rational, intelligent people do. Clearly you don't fit that bill.- +1 y
@bingbongbangbung Please have a read of these published reviews discussing studies exploring mask effectiveness. Personally, I let data from controlled studies guide my opinion on mask mandates and the data strongly suggests masks effectiveness in curbing transmission, morbidity, and mortality of covid. I call statements declared as fact, which are not supported by research and often appealing to a persons biases, a conspiracy theory. I also fail to see how this particular situation has any similarities with CIA black ops during the cold war. But who knows, maybe all these researchers in University are all CIA agents or being payed by the government so as the control the population through mask wearing :). Some good literature reviews of mask wearing effectiveness if your wondering: doi:10.1001/jama.2021.1505
