They never actually claimed that Asians are "whites". They just divided students into groups labelled "White/Asian Students" and "Students of Color" for statistical purposes.

Bearing in mind the context - comparing the disadvantages faced by certain demographics in education (they also look at poverty as a factor) - it's clear that they simply feel (and their statistics confirm) that the level of "opportunity" for Asians is more comparable to that of whites, than to it is to that of other people of color.

Again, the whole reason for doing the statistical analysis to begin with, was most likely to identify those groups who are most disadvantaged, with the aim of offering them additional support - and the result was that Whites and Asians don't need additional support.

It's a careless slip up, but there's nothing sinister about it. Most likely, they just thought a technically more accurate phrase like "Other students of color" or "Students of other color" or whatever, sounded very awkward - which it does.

I think a big part of this has to do with the educational achievement gap between Asia students and other groups including whites. As a group, Asian students are the highest performing. And the public schools are largely run based on woke, intersectional philosophy. So it's inconvenient to have these high performing Asian students designated as "people of color" (registered trademark) because POC are supposed to be low performing because of the (ahem) "systematic inequities" (registered trademark) of the school system. It's all part of the crazy obsession with race on the part of the Leftists running the public schools and every other field of endeavor that they run.

I thought this was already a thing. Hell, Hispanics barely even count as "people of color" with the far left. And I think Indians only count if their parents are under a certain yearly income.

"People of color" is so stupid anyway. As if white isn't a color and as if Caucasians are literally pale white, to begin with. I HATE living in the modern era with this rampant race stupidity going on!

The liberals are mad because Asians disprove their claims that "minorities" don't do as well due to racism. They hate that Asians out perform other "minorities" academically and they don't commit nearly as much crime either.

The reason I put minorities in quotes is because in California where Whites are actually the minority, especially in the central valley, Whites still frequently out perform others in school (the exact same school, same classroom, same teacher, same supplies, etc.) I know, I have seen in in person for years since I have worked in schools here for 11 1/2 years. And many of those White students have less financially than the others that perform worse. Plus the Whites here commit less crime. (Asians commit less crime too than the other "minorities")

Since when is one school district the "US"? I don't know why this district would do this, but it's sure as heck not any kind of national policy.

The problem is that whenever you try to put things into categories, it never works. They could have twenty categories and there would still be people who don't clearly fit in any of them.

"People of color" is a politically correct term for blacks. Asians aren't black by most definitions of black.

Progressives frequently flip flop back and forth on Asian's privilege status depending on when it is convenient for their ideology or agenda. They've been doing this for ages and so for years it's been a good illustration of how the ideology is nonsense.

They need to stop any and all focus on race. We are all human, capable of doing the same things, why should race matter? People are throwing a fit over the past. The past can’t be changed. Race is being used as a tool for political gain by people that believe minorities need to be treated differently by white people.

Sounds like a racist way of avoiding discrimination against Asians in school. They've been targeted by schools, making it uniquely difficult to get in.

And the predominantly white leadership decided how do we avoid doing this again? "Let's call them white. Can't treat them differently if they're white too"

I've always thought Asians are white. History lesson: Technically I'm not fully white since I'm half Sicilian. There was a trial in the 1800s I think and an African American was pardoned for sleeping with a "white" woman who was Sicilian. That trial concluded that Sicilians aren't conclusively white. Race doesn't matter though. Who cares what people look like.

Race is only a social case, and need to "belonging" to some group. It's not really genetics. You in America say that Latinos are a race, when from genetical point of view - most of them are mixed. Some are more white, some are more black, some are more Indian. You can't really classify them as one group if you base on genetics.

Why do they even count students by their colors in the first place? Is the question you should be asking. They shouldn't track racist parameters because the color shouldn't affect anything the school does. So they have no reason to track it.
