No, Hispanics should be, and technically are for the most part.

Hispanics are the only cultural group that gets their own classification in the U. S. Census. This is discriminatory against all other cultural groups as well as Hispanics being singled.

Why, what do we gain from knowing who has ancestors who spoke Spanish, over say french, Chinese, Indian, or English?

Indeed Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, how does that particular linguistic ancestry even tell us anything about them?

There shouldn't be any racial classifications. People lived just fine without them for almost all of human history. Nobody thought it was important to invent/label people's race until 1700s. But obviously there was culture & traditions that certain people shared.
