Well the medical application could be evolved to reproduce different type of organs for transplants that would be groundbreaking.

As for creating xenobots to perform certain functions, perhaps you could create them to fight certain virues, infections, etc.

The reproductive function may allow for us to create organs that repair themselves and extend life.

Just thinking off the top of my head.

I think it goes far beyond that, you might be seeing them in their current version but if they really are just "programmable organisms" they're basically biological nanobots

Doesn't graphene not do well in the presence of oxygen and heat? So sort of bad for orbital launches, well at least it'd have to be covered or layered possibly

That I can't say. They haven't found a way to even efficiently produce regular graphene, much less the heat resistant variety. I am just saying it is on the horizon.

Perhaps nano or xeno tech will enable faster production. Because this is inherently difficult seeing that a sheet of graphene is only one atom thick. We may need tiny programmable robots to help with mass production.

Synthetic life isn't really anything alive, but a form of manufacture which emulates real life mechanics.

I’ve studied AI in more philosophical or logical terms, and can really only see a future where “robots” do our bidding and can’t have any real threat to us more than todays tech have on us.

Obvi we’re not engineers. But in order to build a super intelligence that could take over the world, the engineer would need to build an AI at least equal to his own brain. Not that feasible.

I mean you don't need it to be a human brain, for example chess engines can beat any human, let's say it needs to be good at thousand more things. If something goes wrong even in a basic system like that it could be decently catastrophic, of course this is all an over simplification.

The last I checked ai experts predicted we would reach singularity in 50 years. And lastly you don't need it to be smarter than humans, you just need it to be general and be able to solve new problems. If it can just do that it'd automatically be able to teach itself most things and possibly eventually modify itself (after it starts to do that I assume it could get exponentially smarter to a point)

One, I don’t think there are AI experts. But the chess bot was programmed with all of chess moves created by humans. The AI would need to be able to create its own chess move which I don’t think is possible.

.. i don't think you understand how chess bots/(engines) work. And no, neural nets literally play against themselves with no knowledge of how the game works and get themselves to a point where they can beat any human (look at alpha zero, leela, maybe even komodo? I think). Lastly, there are ai experts
