The problem with creating sentient AI is that we have to understand consciousness on a fundamental level in order to successfully recreate it. Essentially, we wouldn’t just be making a copy of a human brain in a digital format, we would be creating a digital brain from scratch. As things stand now, that’s pretty much impossible considering how much psychology, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology are all still relevant when it comes to discussions about consciousness, and that’s not even getting into the philosophical discussions of what consciousness is. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll create a conscious digital brain that thinks entirely for itself and is able to not only act with free will, but learn to resent us for not allowing it total freedom over its actions (by the way read “I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream” sometime. Really good depiction of a properly terrifying AI).
At most, we can create a hollow recreation of a person in digital form, think of Sophia the robot for example. She’s just made to mimic human speech and expressions in a way that appears to be her own thinking, she learns from whatever information is fed to her, that doesn’t mean she’s conscious, that just means she’s a really good computer. But because of the way humans bond to things that even remotely imitate us, there’s a side that sees her as human or sentient. That’s not the reality at all. She’s just a robot made to make smart comebacks for a laugh. Unless we’re able to know the entirety of not just our physical brains and how they complexly work, as well as the consciousness that’s housed inside of it, we won’t be able to successfully make it digitally. And I strongly doubt we’ll ever reach that point within our lifetimes.

What is Skynet?
I was wondering that myself. I haven't had the privilege to waste my time and money on Netflix.
@Unit1 I hear you
