The truth is that $25 an hour would not be enough today to live with all basic needs.

Here is the ugly problem. Workers demand more wages. Employers give raise but then need to raise cost of goods. Workers raise goes towards the increase costs. So, my question to you is how you stop or at least slow it (We the USA has only been able to slow it) The solution is not easy or simple!
Raise rates to 16% , you stop inflation cold , but Dow would collapse and housing will collapse. Then everyone is laid off.
Exactly so we have instead been walking the tight rope between these two. The BIG problems have been in government spending. The wars, pandemic. Normally these would balance or even improve the economy such as WW2 did. So why did this not happen? EVERYTHING is made in another country.
Great write up of this: prospect.org/.../
According to inflation…mathematically $32 minimum.
Probably correct , since inflation has not been accurately figured since the 1980's , which is why min wage has not been increased from 1981 to 2009 . Give Reagan credit he increased min wage and he increased Social Security for old people based on Cost of living. Just that all the Presidents since lied about what the cost of living rate was. When the dollar was created is was actually $1 and now that same dollar is $0.03 . So we can conclude min wage was rarely updated in caparison to inflation and the value of the dollar. My vote is for $15 an hour min wage every state and some states should be even higher than $15 and determined amount by these states. I am a fair person. So, you know one thing I would do if I became President. I might get my head shot off for it.
It is about being fair and giving confidence to people , not to mention hope and a future chance to do better. Plus us Conservatives which preach not to abort babies , yet make people try to live off of $7.25 an hour and still provide for kids.

It's important to understand the purpose of a minimum wage.
It was first done as a way to stop the exploitation of workers in sweatshops, and later became a way to help lower-income families. It was never intended to be a "living wage" that someone could live comfortably on, yet that is what some people today believe it should be. In the US, a $10/hour minimum wage would account for an annual wage of about $20 thousand, which is below the $26,500 poverty level income for a family of four.
for or against? Many do have to live on it. This help wanted craze won't last much longer
The government controls inflation and can do so independently from the wage. Also a minimum wage should cover the cost of living as well as have enough extra for some luxuries. That includes a place to stay such as an apartment, food, water, electricity, mobile phone, computer, internet access, car, insurance, healthcare etc... Personally I dont feel like doing the calculation but people I have trust have put it at around 15 dollars at the moment.
Fools like you have been tricked and brainwashed that if you increase the minimum wage to a livable wage then inflation must spike.
It's a good technique the rich elites have pushed through politicians to keep morons from asking for dignity wages and decent living standards.
The actual minimum wage should be around 20 dollars a hour.
Not even $15 a dollars a hour is fair compared to what the employer takes home which his or her employees help them make the wealth.
Anyone that makes a net $50,000 a year is actually being ripped off by about $10,000 to $12,000 a year extra that his or her employee keeps to themselves right to their bank account.
The pay you as little as they possibly can get away with and people have been condition to just accept it.
1) nope
2) I think raising wages causes more inflation
a) however , it hasn't gone up in years and gov't lies about inflation rates
b) also some people are trapped in min wage jobs
c) Older people have to go back to work and are not getting crap with money in bank
3) We need a reset and a collapse to throw all the Ass holes in Washington out and start over. I just want cash to remain and not go cashless and totally digital. .
Inflation is Joe's fault!! Let HIM pay the extra money those people want! Minimum wage is NOT there for you to make a living on, it's there to put some cash in your pocket until a better job comes along. Leave minimum wage where it is and let that old fuck fix the economy back to the way it was when he TOOK over from Trump!! He wants to build back better, let him start there!! We HAD better until he fucked it all up for us!!
Needs to be at the very least $25 a hour , you'd still be poor , but current USA minimums and " contract " style self employment are a joke. Minimums are often used to prop up wealthy restaurant owners , pay a proper wage ! Cut the bullshit tipping system that encourages none to attend , you can't have some reliant on " tips " when others dont receive them at all. But , its all a pipe dream , as little will change.
Minimum wage should be replaced with a voucher system, vouchers for food, rent, clothes etc. This would help people more because they wouldn't waste money on things like alcohol.
Minimum wage will vary depending on state and country based on standard & cost of living. A $20 minimum wage in Florida , might not be a livable minimum wage in NYC or California where it might need to be $30 .
If anyone says that minimum wage should be as high as possible has ZERO understanding of simple economics. ALL THINGS RELATIVE!!! If you raise minimum wage, everything else will cost more. IF I HAVE TO PAY MY EMPLOYEES MORE, THEN I HAVE TO SELL MY PRODUCTS AT A HIGHER PRICE.
The problem is that there is so much disparity between states that what would be a good minimum wage in one state is not enough in another. It should be more than 7.50 an hour however.
federal should be at least $15 and California and New York , and Washington , Oregon, and a few others should be $20 to $25 .
cost of living is higher , crime, and lots of people.
If I was Governor of Indiana , sales tax would be 2% . I know people from all 4 surrounding states will buy in Indiana which will bring more revenue in than 7% rates now. Also, help Hoosiers selling online.
I live in one of the high tax moonbat states. It borders a state with no sales tax. We used to go Christmas shopping there. It is about an hour's drive but there are a plethora of stores right over the border. We would make a day of it and filled the gas tank and bought beer before we left.
Depends on the area, it just went to 15 an hour in New York City, probably shouldn’t be that high since it wasn’t meant to live off of , just for young college kids or high school students part time for some money while in school
$15 in New York City would be like $4 an hour in cow town USA. You can't do much with $15 an hour in New York City. Could you afford a one room apartment with rats bigger than most dogs?
No it’s not meant to live on
so people should live out of their car?
Homeless shelters if they choose to be that poor or move where it’s affordable, New York is not for poor people unless you are on welfare otherwise it’s basically for higher middle class and rich
minimum wage should be ZERO You shouldn't get paid one penny more than you're actually provably worth.
They first jobs so how can they prove anything
$0. You should negotiate your own wage. If the wage they offer isn't acceptable, you decline the job.
There should be no minimum wage it actually makes people worse off by taking out negotiation from the equation having to rely on the government to increase your wages instead of the negotiation
Ok , only good workers could negotiate higher wage. How about all the others? I mean what do you do with the average to below average worker?
If you cannot produce a lot of value you don't deserve a lot of pay it's always funny how people think you deserve to be paid how much you want to live on that's not how it works.
There should be no minimum wage because it increased unemployment but a $1 minimum wage would do little harm.
it is already $7.25
even retarded people are worth $7.25 an hour
0$. You should have to negotiate for the way do you want to be paid.
What's wrong with the minimum wage the way it is? Nobody in their right mind actually works for it. And if you raise it all it does is punish those making above minimum wage. So I ask you. Why do you want to punish the middle class?
Enough to comfortably live in a 2 bedroom appartment if you work 40 hours per week.
Should it be a "just get by "wage? What about appendix emergency?
The real deal is killing Inflation. Can't have that as that will anger the unfathomable Dark God that is the Stock Market.
It went up to $15 /hr here in Ontario.
Do you realize contractors have to pay unskilled laborers more and more depending on minimum wage? If you double minimum wage, then people who make slightly more than minium wage need to have their pay doubled, and that increases the cost of everything else dramatically. What do you think it will cost to make a house when the price of concrete goes to $400 per cubic yard some day because of a million minimum wage increases?
@Wade12345 welcome to liberal policies and the outcome of inflation. This why government should be separated from business. Every time they interfere you get these type of problems.
Your poll is skewed because any freedom lovers here know min wage is wrong
Since Biden has no problem printing hoards of money just make it a million dollars an hour.
it needs to be based on education
min wage is for no education
how is that possible? like a dropout or a person that's never been in a school before?
yep, women that got knocked up, HS dropouts , people that been in prison,
i guess society is more forgiving nowadays.. i mean i ain't a rapper but i can buy a gun so i got hope yo lol
Zero.
You related to Ebanezzer Scrooge?
The minimum wage is a barrier to work. That encourages illegal immigration and fuels inflation. It is not helpful to wages in America.
The money printing has caused the inflation , 9/10 economists say so. Don't believe TarterSauce Jew boy on here.
How is min wage of $7.25 causing inflation?
If you raise the minimum wage employers have to raise more money to pay their employees and they raise the price of their products and services.
sure, but it still legally $7.25 for like 12 years.
$0 abolished.
Why would anyone work for $0 an hour? Your theory is company would pay what is necessary which could be $50 an hour, but more likely it would be slave labor , as the demands would be too demanding and that company would want one person to do everything . Also illegals would work for $5 an hour , but they don't have the expenses that Americans have which would require more than $5 an hour.
Would you offer 401K? Insurance? How about overtime rate?
"Why would anyone work for $0 an hour?" Uhhh they wouldn't. You don't need a minimum wage to keep people from working for $0 now do you? Smh.
"Also illegals would work for $5 an hour , but they don't have the expenses that Americans have which would require more than $5 an hour." Well its a related issue. There shouldn't be open borders and illegals allowed.
Short of specific jobs most of the market has avoided nonsense minimum wage laws and other things like health insurance by saying fuck that and only hiring independent contractors. Make the min wage $50 and most business will just lay people off or switch them to independent contractors and pay the exact same wage they wanted to anyways.
But there will always be Illegals getting in. With Trump, very few. With Biden all of them come on in. Your theory is for a perfect system which we will never have.
Having a small amount of illegals will not cause a big problem with the marketplace of wages. Only massive amounts.
by the way americans can and do work for $5 an hour as well.
There should not be a minimum wage.
Why?
because in a free market you trade your labor for money. Both parties agree to the terms. This is not the job of government
So OSHA is wrong too? Even though people have been hurt working in mines
That’s a completely different discussion. Don’t debate like a liberal.
They are both gov't and deal with how workers are treated or dealt with
The foundation of the minimum wage was to keep low skilled black people out of the work force. It’s a racist policy
20 dollars
$10 I think
