Disagreeing about ideal tax rates and gun prevalence doesn't seem so important when half the country is simultaneously 1. decrying me for being a racist since I treat everyone equally and 2. calling for me to be discriminated against on the basis of race.

The Democratic Party is not left-wing. It has a few members that are, it has some more who are willing to try to pass legislation that will benefit the majority. You might like to say that they're useless, but they're not the only party in government; Republicans are 100% against anything that the Democrats might do that will be popular, while making promises to do those things with no intention of following through.

Remember Trump's beautiful health care that would be affordable by everyone?

McCarthy's promising to introduce legislation to limit lawmakers’ ability to trade stocks, if they win? Why not now? Because that would be a partial win for Democrats, and because it would look really bad for all the Republicans who would vote against it.
