So I answered this prior under someone else so I’m just going to copy & paste the same thing since it covers all the bases, sorry.

Honestly, if it were anyone else’s child we would have bias and give in too. The only difference about this is President Biden being abundantly clear & consistent up to this point that he would uphold the jury’s decision and not get involved (which was admirable at the time) though apparently after seeing his son Hunter Biden at the family Thanksgiving Dinner, he caved according to those closest to him which I believe since the Statement of President Biden seemed “rushed” & “hastily” put together and just not good except the last phrase… Just seems like he was plucking at straws.

My Answer: No and not for what everyone on the Right or Left will tell you, I don’t like it because he could’ve had a bigger argument and make it about the criminal justice system as a whole. Everyone has a brother, son, father, mother, daughter, sister or somebody which imagine if they were found with drugs due to an addiction… Now imagine they find a gun while you have those illegal substances due to your addiction and they throw more sentencing charges on top of it just to put you in jail for a very long time. This reality affects Americans every damn day in the form of mandatory minimum sentences which I find a broken system where the rich get away while the poor suffer. I’d like prisoners who find themselves in mandatory minimum sentences to be treated like a Hunter Biden not like a Prisoner with no label, no rights, and no due process…. Americans deserve better and for that I feel the President failed though he is a good father I have to draw the line that he should’ve stayed out of it & should’ve made this about mandatory minimum sentences.

I don’t care about sides, I care about truth & transparency. I’m being truthful to my values and transparent about my stance since I’m an American who loves his country. If it were me I would cave in and pardon too though make this about the American people not my son. Thank you! God Bless America!

Summary: I hate mandatory minimum sentences and wished President Biden stepped up for all families / citizens affected, I hate Biden’s inconsistency / not being a man of his word, and I hate a guilty Hunter Biden getting away with it (like how I hate guilty Donald Trump getting away with it)

Complete Indulgence was the reason why Christianity split under influence of Martin Luther. Usually King had a right to mercy. However to grant mercy a culprit needs to be sentenced and prosecuted beforehand. Indulgence grants complete immunity against the prosecution, for committed crimes and sometimes for crimes someone will commit in the future. Such behavior is completely amoral and against rules of healthy democratic society, but US is a banana republic and Biden proved this again.

To be completely fair, were I in Biden's position, I'd do the same. I mean, he's almost out of office, has no fucks to give, already has one foot in the grave so no worries about continuing to build a legacy or career.

That and he likely already forgot that he pardoned hunter and is now wondering where's his ice cream.

I'm conflicted. It was suspect how the plea bargsin fell apart BUT it did so then a new MUCH shittier deal was offered and like 92% of criminal indictments he pleaded guilty. So far I'm just miffed over the political nature of the prosecution because his name is Biden BUT HE DID THE CRIMES - there's no spinning that - it's now only a matter of what is justice?

Now, the pardon. I'm conflicted. The purpose is to right injustices and this was one. Thanks to POTUSs like Slick Willy and others there's precedent too unfortunately. That said justice is NOT served by the pardon because now he's off Scott free. Justice is somewhere in the middle.

The optics are TERRIBLE! MAGAs are gonna bellow that he pardoned him in a blanket manner to cover up his own (fantasy inspired) crimes. It adds to a really shitty precedent. It gives MAGA the (accurate) opportunity to say Joe is a liar for backtracking.

I would favor a future facing commutation after he's done some time but that's not an option. Like I said, I'm conflicted. 🤷🏻‍♂️⚖️

The optics are terrible because it is plainly accepted political corruption.

      Rule for thee not me.

I'm not surprised or outraged, he was a bad president and always politically corrupt and he'll leave office with that at the forefront of everyone's mind. It's exactly how I expected him to act.

The definition of a pardon is forgiving someone of a crime; either before or after the conviction.

OK, then before Biden starts handing out pardons like candy, he owes it to the American public to tell us about the crimes they did.

    Fauci?

    Liz Cheney?

    And on and on...

Joe Biden was going to let the law take its course on Hunter. But Trump has made it clear he is going after anyone he doesn't like for "retribution". His "cabinet" is a Who's Who of criminal types who will do his bidding, no matter how illegal or unethical. Joe knows that Trump's hit squad will go after his family. It would be persecution, not a fair prosecution. A pardon is the only way that Hunter can avoid that.

I think you should also note that the crimes his son was being charged with were crimes that are normally added onto other crimes, and not by themselves, even for normal citizens. In other words, this was a political attack against his family, and that should be taken into consideration. Also, Trump has pardoned much worse, so who even cares.

The part that truly sucks is that if it was my son he would still be in prison so Joe better give him a timeout and no Coke for a week or Joe knows well I'm going to do this for you but remember I can do it today but when I'm gone you get in trouble they're going to hang your ass. I'm going to be honest

Even though it's wrong if I was in the same position and my son it happened to him I would do the same thing

He was not going to pardon him till Trump won the election, and Trump has made it clear he will go after anyone he does not like as "retribution". The way he can hurt Joe is by going after Hunter, so Joe did the only thing he could to protect his son from Trump's immoral and unethical attacks.

You mean, the way Trump was treated for the last 4 years? Such as being prosecuted for giving his own properties too high of a valuation (even though the contract advised the bank to do their own, independent valuation, which they did) for a loan that a bank willingly gave, and that was paid back on time? A completely common occurrence that has been happening in NYC for a hundred years and that no other person in history has ever been prosecuted for? That kind of weaponized prosecution? Ahh. Yeah, we wouldn't want THAT, would we?

@MrOracle Jan 6? Stealing and mishandling national security documents? Trying to overturn the election in Georgia?

Those only didn't come to trial because of a corrupt judiciary that delayed proceedings on Trump's behalf, when they should have recused because they owed their current and potential future positions to him.

@MrOracle The stuff Trump was charged with is stuff that would have thrown a normal person in jail many times over. In fact, many people did go to jail for January 6th, unlike Trump. If anything, this proves Trump and his cronies put him above the law. In fact, they even made it a law now that he is.

@NimbleOcelot Trump did NOTHING to cause Jan 6, aside from certain politicians twisting his words like a pretzel and even then the result is a LONG stretch to something that could be remotely like "inciting" anything. Most of the rest was 100% fabrication. And that's exactly why they didn't even charge him - there was literally no grounds to do so. That's why they "tried him in the press" instead of trying to do it in court - there's no rules or limits in the press.

If they could have even POSSIBLY gotten something to stick about Jan 6, they'd have had him charged and tried immediately - but they didn't have anything. Which is why you have no evidence to offer - there isn't any. At best, you can offer what can only kindly be called "interpretations" by people suffering from severe TDS, and nothing from Trump himself.

You also had a crowd full of FBI and likely other operatives, and you had requests for more security for the capital by Trump repeatedly denied. Finally, there were the constant lies for the first week that the crowd had killed capital police officers, which did not happen. By the time the truth came out, hundreds of millions of people already believed it was true, and never heard the retraction. None of this was an accident. Unfortunately, they were unable to pin any of this on Trump except in the press, as desperately as they wanted to get something that would hold up in court.

Not unexpected. But anything he does or doesn't do is not exempt. That includes being subpoenaed testifying against Joe. Joe will spend the rest of his life in court. And the reformed IRS will investigate his finances. But maybe he will pardon himself before Jan 20.

Considering that Biden's sole messege when running for president was restoring the trust in government and institutions, this is kinda popping a bubble.

I personally don't mind it, the president has a right to pardon whoever he wants to, but if Democrats despised Trump for pardoning the father of his son-in-law, then supporting Biden's pardon makes you as bad as the person you claim to despise.

What would happen if it was an average citizen of the USA. Why can't we be pardoned when we make mistakes and end up in jail? Why do those in power get away with everything?

After the pardon of general flynn (by trump) and not a PEEP out of the right, they have zero, absolutely zero, right to complain. IDGAF, really. Neither should anyone else, we got much bigger problems on the way.

I said months ago that was the price of him stepping down as the democratic nominee. I think the deal was he'd step down if Kamala pardoned hunter so as to keep his legacy intact. But since this never came to fruition he was forced to renege on his promise not to pardon Hunter.

Nope. Hunter Biden was convicted of three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018 when, prosecutors argued, the president’s son lied on a mandatory gun-purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs. President Joe Biden said in a statement issued shortly after the verdict that he would accept the outcome and “continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.” That is just the opposite of the lie that "the libs spend 4 years telling us Hunter didn’t commit any crimes".

The only reason he pardoned his son was because Trump has made it clear he will bring "retribution" on anyone he dislikes. The cabinet he has chosen is made up mostly of immoral asses guilty of many crimes themselves. Remember how quickly Matt Gaetz withdrew to avoid evidence of his sexual crimes being made made public? Trump was going after Hunter Biden to bring retribution against Joe Biden. I became necessary for Joe to issue that pardon.

Oh dang; he actually did it. Just heard it on the news. I am not surprised by the pardon; I am just surprised by the timing. I am also a little surprised that it was Biden. I was thinking that Biden would have stepped down by now; and Kamala would have granted it. Or a pardon for a pardon; where Biden pardons Trump and Trump pardons Hunter.

Why would Trump accept a pardon from Biden? He's already got one from his SCOTUS.

SCOTUS hasn't pardoned anyone. They just clarified presidential immunity. Something everyone already knew and agreed upon until Trump was elected.

No, they didn't. What "everyone already knew" was that no-one was above the law, but that presidents have leeway from their successors when it comes to acts in the interests of the country (like you or I get 5-10 mph leeway on speeding).

What they did was delay the trials until there was no justice, and Cannon dismissed an open-and-shut case she'd already been reprimanded for exceeding her authority to delay. She never said Trump wasn't guilty as hell, by the way.

SCOTUS ruled that presidential immunity is limited to official acts. That it doesn't extend to unofficial acts. Which is what everyone already knew. The trials against Trump were purely political and an attempt to keep him out of office. Which is why they waited until after he announced that he was running before charging him with anything. If they really thought he was guilty of everything they charged him with then they would have been able to bring some of the cases to trial before the primary. The only convictions they managed to get against Trump required the judge to tell the jury to not worry about the felony Trump committed and also broke up the jury into three groups to decide on three aspects of the charges independently. Instead of deciding on all aspects of the charges together like a jury has done in every other court case ever decided by a jury.

Guess who gets to decide what acts are "official"? Regardless, the trials against Trump were absolutely not "purely political"; he really did steal government national security documents and mishandle them. He really did unlawfully try to get the election in Georgia overturned, and he really did unlawfully try to steal the election in the lead up to Jan 6.

The DoJ was timid and stupid. Trump could have simply stayed quiet and got away with the crimes, but he chose to run for office and that forced the DoJ to appoint a special counsel to continue the investigations and he wasn't so timid.

The indictments could have and should have gone to trial in weeks or a a few months, not been delayed by Trump appointed judges and "justices".

And you've totally misunderstood what happened in the NY trial; the jury was unanimous on every count.

The president is allowed to declassify any document. Plus every president has kept documents from their presidency. Did Al Gore unlawfully try to get the Florida election overturned in 2000? Questioning election results is not illegal; the Democrats have been doing it for years over several elections. Should Stacy Abrams be arrested for trying to get the Georgia gubernatorial election overturned?

Are you talking about the judges and prosecutors that ran on putting Trump in jail, or met with the Biden administration before filling charges, or stepped down from their cushy federal job to take a job at the local level so that they could bring charges against Trump?

As for the New York trial, you mean all 37 counts of writing a check? All of which were agreed upon legal payments. Something that is only illegal if it is part of a felony. Which the prosecutor never had a clue, which he publicly stated, what the felony was.

He's on tape saying he could have declassified the national security document he was showing some random people, but didn't. Why don't you know this?

Filing frivolous lawsuits is illegal. Gore didn't, Trump did. Why don't you know this?

34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a crime, which is a felony and for which the jury unanimously found Trump guilty on all 34 counts. Why don't you know this?

      Reply
    • shortster

That isn't what he said on tape.

So what makes it a frivolous lawsuit? The fact that he lost? Because Gore lost his lawsuit too. It was a close election and anyone has the right to challenge the results. Just because the courts declined to proceed with the case doesn't make it frivolous.

What was the crime that was covered up? Nobody knows, because there wasn't one. The judge doesn't know, the prosecutor doesn't know, the jury doesn't know, the media doesn't know, Trump doesn't know, but apparently you know? Some random guy who posts stuff online.

You know what, I didn't vote for Trump in 2016; nor did I vote for him in 2020. I wasn't planning on voting for him in 2024. But it was people like you that drove me to vote for him. This question was about Hunter Biden getting a pardon, a blanket pardon for ten years covering all the crimes he committed known and unknown. Yet you can't shut up about Trump for 1 minute to discuss that issue. Yes I know I mentioned him in my comment; but it was a passing mention of the possibility of Trump granting Hunter a pardon when he came in to office (a totally moot point now). Yet here you are blabbing on and on and on about how Trump should be in jail. Well he isn't and he's not going to be. Instead he's going back to the White House. And you, yes you, are the reason I voted for him. Let that sink in. Bask in all of its wonderful glory for the next four years. Because you created the impetus for it. Your username is very apt, as you have been goading people to vote for Trump.

So you did know, but lie about it. It literally is what he said. There's no point in trying to discuss anything with someone who will deny reality like that.

"“This was done by the military and given to me,” Trump continues, before noting that the document remained classified.

“See as president I could have declassified it,” Trump says. “Now I can’t, you know, but this is still a secret.”"
