So now the bars been set are we likely to see a spate of tractor clobberings on British streets and will this lead to a tractor arms race between citizen and criminals?

I'll bet the farmer would have been found guilty of assault if he had simply punched the drunk out. I don't see how fucking up the guy's car was reasonable and in proportion to the threat faced by some annoying drunk guy. British law is bizarre. This verdict makes no sense.
I don't know what makes you think that it would be justifiable for someone in the U. S. to shoot the drunk. Show me one time when that has happened. Guns are for defense against immanent and immediate threat of bodily harm.
Only people with no self-control, criminal intent, or control issues are against guns. If someone thinks that the possession of a gun makes people violent, they're projecting their lack of self-control on everyone else. If someone has a problem with others defending themselves with guns, it means they have criminal intentions and don't want others using guns to stop them. Governments hate citizens being armed because an armed populace is impossible to control.
I've never seen a peaceful, law-abiding, rational citizen who thinks guns make people bad. I've owned guns since I was 12. I've never shot anyone (even though I've been in fights while carrying), and I've never committed a crime.
If you recall the Boston Massacre, the British army fired into mob of Americans and actually hit only five of them So I would agree that things like sticks and stones Are a better choice for them, since they've basically not evolved after 10,000 years of farming
That was a pretty common occurrence throughout that period in history. Troops who were trained to hit small targets at distance would miss rows of men at fairly close range. Even as late as ww2 it's calculated that a third of men in the trenches shot to miss.

It's a well documented fact based on officers accounts on both aides. Even though the chance to kill presented itself daily it wasn't until the enemy actually pushed forward that any serious killing took place.
@Red_Arrow It's rather like the Queen, you see. She doesn't actually ride around in a golden carriage unless someone is watching. Similarly the British fire their weapons as if they're actually fighting while they wait for the Americans to show up.

The laws are bastardised by the American constitution, as is nearly everything American, from British common laws.
It was only the difficulty of centrally policing such a vast land, and the uncivilised people living there, that the founding fathers chose to allow defence by personal arms.
The American constitution is largely defunct in the modern era. It would be like Europe living under Roman laws.
Your article states that the farmer struck the trespasser with the forks of his vehicle, not just the car. That could have ended up killing the trespasser. American law does not allow killing people for parking on the edge of their property. Sounds like the British laws are the unreasonable ones.
You could go full on Mad Max with a tractor. So you could make it a lot better then a gun in that way. Take your tractor to your nearest junk yard and go to town. Also if you want to go full vehicle combat, ya have to attach a lot of guns, rockets and missiles to it.
She called gun pathetic, but using the tractor is more pathetic. The tractor could damage both vehicle and humans in there. Also a poor skill driver of the tractor with a resisting driver of the car probably may lead more wounded than it should be, or even damage their self farm if things go worse. While the gun is more manipulative and easier in most cases, obviously we don’t need to shoot in their heads or sensitive parts to make us a murderous person even it’s self-defense.

I don’t think self defense is relegated to what you use. It’s all about context. I could use a toilet seat to defend myself if I was actually defending myself….

what do you mean "unlike American law"? People are thrown in jail all the time for excessive use of force in cases where they were defending themselves but went too far. We aren't allowed to just shoot someone for walking onto our property unless they pose a threat and shit. But, enjoy your fake news. Tractors are sexy
