Should I go to the police or will I need to let this go?

I was at Outback; and accidentally left my expensive sunglasses in the bathroom stall. They are special lens sunglasses because I have a very hard time seeing out of the cheap sunglasses lens. I had just gotten them updated too. Someone stole them today. Outback doesn't have them anywhere. Should I make a report to the police? I can't afford a new pair of sunglasses but need them for my eyes. I am a student. I technically have money; but at the same time; I really don't.

Nobody stole them. You left them unattended in a public place and someone picked them up. How were they supposed to know you didn't just decide to leave them cause you no longer wanted them instead of being careless and inattentive. Maybe you can argue it would have been nice if they turned them in to the restaurant but they were under no obligation to do so legally. You should not expect to leave something of value in a public place and have it remain untouched indefinitely. You can contact the police but I'm pretty sure they will tell you no crime was committed.

Honey bunches; I work in law. Yes; walking out and taking property that does not belong to you; and belongs to someone else is stealing. That is why people have gotten arrested for taking people's sunglasses before in my area. This is not; oh they are CORRECT because YOU made an innocent mistake. If you steal something from someone; its against the law and you will go to jail. Period. In California; where I live; they have a new law that indicates they can arrest someone for stealing; but will rarely prosecute if it is under 1,000$. Its not that its NOT illegal, because it is. Its theft.

Also; this is not a public park; or a parking lot; this was a restaraunt bathroom; they had NO buisness taking the glasses and walking out the door with them.

You can report, but don't expect much to happen. The more reports in one area the more resources they will allocate and maybe one-day catch the people stealing.

That really sucks. 🙁 Sorry to hear about that. It’s ultimately up to you, but I’d probably just let it go. At this point, it’s unlikely they’d care enough to go searching. (As much as that sucks) Hope it gets better for you though.

You can report it to the police but unless you have to do that for insurance purposes, it's a waste of time as the police will not go looking for a sunglasses thief.

You can make out a police report in case somebody turns them in they can return them to you but don't expect the cops to find them.

Sorry about your sunglasses, but your attitude is pretty shitty. You clearly have a pretty low opinion of law enforcement yet expect them to find your sunglasses that you carelessly left in a bathroom stall?

No one “stole” your glasses. YOU left them there. “Oh cool, nice shades. They’re mine now.” That’s how the vast majority of people operate. I mean not me. I find stuff all the time and turn them into lost and found—but even then, what’s to keep that person from taking the item for themselves? Absolutely nothing.

Hopefully you have some form of vision insurance, or even just see if there is a way to scrape together a bit of cash. It definitely sucks though. I hope you find a solution.
