The answers people are giving to your question indicate how totally ignorant most people are. They consume mainstream media propaganda and know nothing else, but think they know what's going on because they heard it on the news. In fact, there are so many things to say about this Russia-Ukraine thing that it would talk to long to go through them all. But everything is so simple to the lumpen masses. They wouldn't understand, so why bother.

In answer to your question, though, I'll only say that Russia tried to negotiate Ukrainian neutrality for 8 years and was brushed off. Plus, it wasn't going to stand by and watch people in Crimea and Donbas murdered. I'm grateful that it prevented the U. S. from turning Syria in to Mad Max land the way it had done to Libya, too.

The U. S. is merely using the Ukrainian people as pawns to achieve its globalist agenda. It doesn't give one fuck about human rights or democracy. All the hand wringing is a joke.

No one forced Russia to invade them. No one is forcing Russia to bomb hospitals and schools and residential areas. NATO is a mutual defensive organization. It posed no threat to Russia unless Russia initiated aggression towards its members. Do you think Russia should be able to tell independent countries what they can and can't do? Would you give the same advice to Latvia or Estonia if Russia demanded they withdraw from NATO or be invaded? If not, what's the diffetence?

Anyone claiming Ukraine should have just done what Russia told them to do is either too dim to understand the concept of a sovereign nation deciding what's best for themselves or is a Russian troll.

Firstly, that wouldn't have stopped it happening - it would have just allowed Putin to delay until a time of his choosing (fear of Ukraine joining NATO likely helped force his hand).

Secondly, that wasn't the only demand. Putin also demanded that the government be replaced - supposedly he wanted it "de-nazified", but in reality he just wanted to install a leader who would be his puppet (like in Belarus). It's a kind of invasion by stealth. Imagine if Putin threatened to attack the US, but promised not to if you let him replace the government.

As far as I know, Ukraine is not part of the EU OR NATO. Even if they were, there's no guarantee Russia would have stayed on their side of the border.

I'm fully aware Ukraine isn't the purest of countries. They have some serious corruption at all levels of their Gov't (partially WHY we didn't invite them into NATO). That doesn't excuse Russia's invasion.

Ukraine joining NATO or the EU was never the issue. Russia had their own designs on Ukraine and while yes, them joining NATO or the EU would ruin those plans and as such was unacceptable for Russia it would still not have saved them to be "neutral".

There would be is Ukraine became a NATO state. And if it was part of NATO, then all other NATO states would be obligated by treaty to defend the Ukrainian NATO military bases on Russia's border.

The point is, the U. S. would never put up with a hostile nation on it's borders or even in the western hemisphere, especially if that nation was well armed and part of an anti-U. S. alliance.
Look at what the U. S. has done to central and south American states who weren't even militarily hostile? Guatemala, Honduras, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, to name a few glaring examples.
