So just send American troops into Ukraine. Train them and equip them.
Having a military defeat on foreign soil would be too much of a liability for Putin
He’s only invading Ukraine because of the weakness we show.
The Ukrainian forces have been getting trained as part of Op Orbital.
it’s been going on a number of years.
Deploying any significant numbers of troops to the Ukraine would be pointless.
The supply chain would be a nightmare to defend, to make it worth while the numbers would need to be significant.
This would mean less troops in Poland and other countries.
Diplomatic is really the only way out of it.

Putin doesn’t believe in diplomacy.
The democrats are incompetent. Other countries were emboldened by Biden's failures when exiting Afghanistan, leaving behind billions of dollars of weapons and equipment, abandoning our allies and even leaving American citizens there stranded.
Biden is dumb and cowardly. Every other country knows it now. Sending in 8,500 soldiers won't stop Putin if he wants to invade Ukraine.
Yeah. 8,500 is too little, too late
Sadly, I think Ukraine will be let down by the West like it did in Afghanistan. Ukraine should have joined NATO at the earliest opportunity, but keeping it quiet until completed. Biden won't send troops for 2 reasons. First, he doesn't want another "10 years war". Second US is part of NATO, and they will not sanction it.
Yes I agree.
But my whole argument is that Putin would never invade if we had troops in the country.
He knows the west won't send troops there.
Exactly right. And I despise our cowardice
Not really cowardice. The west has been badly hurt before in fighting in places like Vietnam for no gain.
But Ukraine welcomes us though. We should commit to allies
That would be the trigger Russia would see as an excuse to start an invasion. West could not get enough troops there in time to act as a deterrent.
Well just as Russia’s been building up for months, we should’ve done the same thing
Have you not noticed that sending US troops wherever in the world hasn't worked out that well for either the local populations or the troops?
Are you aware that eastern Ukranians don't learn Ukranian at school but Russian?
Do you have any knowledge of the country that you're proposing should be invaded?
How is it an invasion if Ukraine welcomes the presence of American troops?
In which case putting troops in to Ukraine would be foolish.
The Ukrainian forces are actually quite large.
While there have been a Limited number of exercises with their troops, these have not been full scale NATO combined ones.
If the Russians want to invade they will.
This is true of any country along its border, if they want to invade they will and nothing will stop them.
If there were American troops there, it would be a lost cause.
@ChrisMaster69 That’s not true at all. Did Russia invade Afghanistan?
What’s not true, that if Russia wants to invade a neighbour it will?
Or it would be foolish as it would be almost impossible to keep the supply chain open to support those troops?
@ChrisMaster69 let’s just hand them Ukraine again. Great idea.
@WhiteBoyChill what bit was not true?

You really need to chill white boy. Do you actually want a conflict between two nuclear-armed major powers? The Ukraine joining NATO is exactly what would compel Mr. Putin to send his troops in, because he has specifically stated that such a move would be to cross one of his "red lines".
"Just send American troops in" - Oh sure, because it's not like they'd get their asses kicked for doing so. Are you in the army? Would you go, Mr. Arm-Chair General? Why are you automatically assuming that Russia would lose? Have you been watching too many Hollywood action flicks again?
I don’t understand how we could possibly lose a conflict to Russia.
And the whole point of having a military is to use it.
That’s irrelevant. There just wasn’t enough support within Afghanistan to win the war.
People in Ukraine actually fear Russia
Ha! Excuses, excuses.
"Oh, but we didn't have the proper support, the politicians didn't support the troops, we didn't have enough ammo, or intelligence, or someone screwed up. Yes, the Democrats, it was them, they stabbed the army in the back. We didn't lose, it just looks that way. It was the media again, spreading fake news." Pfft!
We lost only because Biden quit
Yeah but you never formally lose until you surrender
Because the members would lose leverage to negotiate with Russia which is a much bigger beast to eat.
For example, they would think "what do I get if I admit Ukraine into the NATO?" Then they will go further "If I tell Russia that I would remain neutral, what will Russia give my country?"
It would be very foolish to put US prestige on the line in the Ukraine, especially since we aren't willing to fight Russia with our supply lines extended all the way back to the US and the lack of certainty of NATO logistical support. Ukraine means a lot to Putin, it doesn't to us. Who thinks we'd win such a war?
Ukraine cannot join NATO since they have active on-going territorial disputes that NATO doesn’t want to be injected into.
As for why countries won’t deploy to Ukraine, because nobody considers them to be worth the effort.
And to be fair, for good reason. Even an accidental exchange between Russia and NATO is more significant than anything Ukraine can provide to anyone. In the end, it is a poor corrupt oligarchy with very little geopolitical significance apart from its location.
Moreover, as long as the willingness to defend NATO is the same, NATO won’t be invaded, which is the most important thing to NATO. So they don’t need to deploy to Ukraine to defend NATO
I wonder why Ukraine isn’t considered important. They border Russia after all so the threat is most imminent
Because countries don’t consider importance based on who is mostly threatened? Countries act predominantly act based on their own interests as opposed to what other nations want.
But Ukraine wants to be part of Nato. Its just other countries in the EU refuse to let them join
So what? Countries don’t want it to be part of NATO because they don’t want to get involved in its territorial conflicts.
NATO was formed after WWII as a military alliance primarily to defend against a Soviet attack. At the time it was formed Ukraine was a Soviet block country.
White-Americans are the dumbest people in the world, lol.
"So just send American troops into Ukraine. Train them and equip them."
That would be enough for Russia to bomb Ukraine into oblivion with our troops there, moron.
“White Americans are the dumbest people in the world”.
Well how come having Estonia and Latvia join Nato in 2004 didn’t cause the same thing?
Those countries are far less strategically important to Russia than Ukraine does.
The Ukrainian territory is more close to Moscow, all the invasions against Russia since the fall of the Mongols came from its borders with Ukraine, their major gas pipeline goes through Ukraine etc.
The Russians will never allow Ukraine to join NATO peacefully, at the best case scenario they'll just send nukes to Cuba and Venezuela in retaliation to it.
Not at all true. Russia is effectively landlocked on its east by Nato. By having them join, Russia can no longer pass through the Baltic without a fight, should war break out.
Their only option now is the black sea. Which of course is also practically landlocked unless they pass through the strait in Turkey (which is also a Nato member).
On its west*
So yeah, there are countries already in Nato that are far more strategically significant
Within the Ukrainian territory, NATO could launch an effective invasion against russia at any time, you failed to grasp that. Whereas a maritime blockade against Russia would be extremely costly to NATO since the Russians have hypersonic missiles and a powerful submarine fleet.
You do realize that Latvia and Estonia (which are both in Nato) are about the same distance away as Ukraine?
Like they already have one flank they need to defend against Nato. And yet they didn’t just decide to invade those countries as soon as they joined
The US cannot even defend its own borders. What makes you think it should defend someone else's?
Ukraine is not a NATO specifically not to antagonize Russia.
The American people are also wary of engaging in another conflict.
It won't start another conflict, it would deter one
Ukraine is old Soviet, Cold War country, they have enough War technology and they don't need to joun NATO...
They really do need to join. Based on what happened in 2014
Russia annexed Crimea
It’s as much as of a hoax as the US invading Iran in winter of 2020
I agree, Biden is clueless...
