I would say if anything there is a stronger connection between liberal and being *DIAGNOSED* as mentally ill. This isn't because more liberals have mental illness than conservatives, though. It is because liberals are more likely to seek mental wellness professionals, and conservatives are more likely to refuse to seek a mental wellness professional.

I don't think you understand how damaging it is to appease, excuse and accommodate antisocial, and even criminal behavior under the guise of mental illness. Also, not everyone who commits suicide is mentally ill. Usually its due to psychosocial stressors beyond the person's control. Part of the conservative ethos is to pull your own weight. Many would rather die than become a perpetual burden on society, which we know liberals are all too happy to be.

It seems there's a spectrum of mental issues and applies across the board.

In general yes, a few liberals I know have diagnosed mental issues, but that's not always true. I know of no republicans or "centrists" with diagnosed mental issues. I also see these people as more sensitive and impacted by the feelings of others. Maybe it is the "hurt" relating to "the hurt"? Thus, they fall into a victimhood mentality. Maybe this is why they are inclined to be soft on dangerous criminals (they feel bad for them), but desire to punish those who make make mistakes that harm "minorities" and those they view as victims. How they think is different because they feel different.

To be clear, has nothing to do with intelligence. you'll find intelligence across the board or not intelligent. It has to do with emotions.

What I find to be unauthentic about these people is they will take a position and support it to the end... until it impacts them personally, then they change their tune. That's my impression.

For me there is a generalized mental health problem with regard to American society. The first problematic are the religious who instead of going to a therapist go to church amplifying their own speeches, followed by the extreme American left that amplifies the dust in the eyes of others, while not seeing the beams in its eyes. Defunding police is ultimately about redistributing funds to other sectors in order to better redistribute work loads. Police are supposed to keep citizens safe by preventing/apprehending criminals, not by talking a man off the ledge of a bridge or dealing with an erratic mentally unwell person on the street. They're simply not trained for that.
