A scientific study was done surveying the relationship between mental fitness and political ideology. It was determined that as people who are more liberal, especially those identifying as “extremely liberal,” are more likely to have mental health problems.   It really explains a lot.

Nah. I don't think liberalism, itself, is a mental illness.

Were the founding fathers mentally ill?
Were Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Jimmy Carter mentally ill?
What about people like Mary Wollstonecraft [1759-1797], who was the first liberal philosopher to advocate and call for the equality of the sexes; John Dewey; MLK jr and other civil rights leaders?
A person could make a very long list of liberals, including prominent philosophers.

Liberals used to be the ones who wanted the Constitution to apply equally to everyone. They defended liberty, and opposed authoritarianism, injustice, war and imperialism.

But I agree that what passes for liberalism in recent times has turned radical and dangerous. I wonder how many modern liberals are victims of MKUltra or something.

At the same time, there is no shortage of conservative whackos. But I suspect that more modern liberals than conservatives are unhinged.

Far left liberalism may attract a significant number of mentally ill people, but I don't think liberalism  per se  is a mental illness. I think it is simply an extension of the philosophy that "the government" owes us a safety net so that we will never be homeless, hungry, or lacking in any necessities, while conservatism is an extension of the philosophy that we are all responsible for ourselves and the government should stay out of our way and allow us the maximum freedom to live our individual lives..

Maybe it just hasn't made it into the DSM5 book of illnesses yet but I'm sure it will one day.
They surely don't seem anywhere near normal and that's why they all stay in their own click of people because normal people don't want to be around people like that!!

Some things i would point out however, is that these mental illnesses are self described, so perhaps this study could show how conservatives are more likely to hide their emotions or mental health while liberals are more open and willing to tell others🤷‍♂️. But, thats just an idea

by the way, the majority of the red states are very closely linked to the states with the worst education. Just wanted to throw that one out there 👻

Yes. I heard the idea that everything our ancestors would have laughed at is a mental disease. That includes most things people who claim they know better than our ancestors want to do.

As a conservative, no? Just because a lot of liberals have mental issues (gender dysphoria, racial phobias, etc) doesn't mean that liberalism is a mental disorder. Personally I'd say that the majority of liberals are either misinformed or contrarians.
