This is why everyone wants Nukes. They no one will invade them and harder to punish. Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if they would have kept Nuclear missiles.

If I had to guess, I’d say that the military industrial complex which dominates US foreign policy would still push for invasion after selling the government a machine which would somehow (allegedly) negate the nuclear threat. If the planned invasion was to take place in a time where a relief from domestic political pressure was badly needed by the US administration, nothing could stop the invasion, not even a nuclear armed opponent. As we’ve seen over the last few years however, a biological bomb is a much more effective way to destroy your enemies than nuclear weapons. If you wipe out your enemy with a man made bio weapon all you have to do is vaccinate your troops and send them over to occupy your new territory and pick up civilization where it left off. Nuclear weapons contaminate for thousands of years and destroy a lot of infrastructure which you would then have to rebuild after a prohibitively expensive decontamination process.

It is a deterrent that really no one has the balls to use. We would have still invaded and so would Russia if Ukraine

Nuclear weapons were the back bone of U. S. containment of the Soviet Union as we could not match their deployed conventional forces. Today, nuclear weapons primary use is deterrence.

They would only invade countries with nukes that are too far to reach us or allies otherwise they just do sanctions instead
