Possibly because viagra is actually a medication that was first developed for chest pain. It is used to treat high blood pressure in the arteries of the lung. Pulmonary hypertension.

I had a patient once, a kid, who was disabled, had a lot of medical conditions, and who was mentally disabled. One of his medications was Viagra. It was used to treat and manage his high blood pressure.

Since the Army does have hospitals and medical staff all around the world, they need medications that can treat patients.

I really doubt they have handing out dick pills left and right to a bunch of twenty something’s who PT regularly and have to stay in shape or get kicked out of the military.

Chances are good that whatever pharmaceutical company that produces Viagra negotiated a juicy contract with the federal government. A military contract is like hitting the lottery. They can likely sell that supply of medication much cheaper but are inflating cost since it’s a government contract.

It doesn't surprise me, and I'm sure that's far from the most egregious example of questionable or wasteful spending. Knowing the Army, it's probably purchased largely by and for the behavioral health services for the older soldiers, and by "older" I don't mean gray in the hairs... according to another soldier I served with about 6 years ago who is now a therapist with the VA, ED rates in the military are pretty high relative to national average by age.

In the commercial market, Viagra pills average about $70 each, but the US government has no qualms whatsoever about paying at least that much or more whenever it buys anything. It's entirely possible that a lot of these just get stockpiled somewhere and it's a scam to funnel money to Pfizer. It would hardly be the first or only time the government has done exactly that.

Army fatigues? Sorry, it just came to mind.

Then again, it's not exactly a low-stress organization and stress is notoriously a huge buzz kill with regard to sexual activity, so maybe it's a desperate attempt to keep the numbers up in future generations. A sizable chunk of new recruits come from military parents.

Erectile dysfunction is a common symptom of anxiety, stress, depression which is rampant in the military.

Because a lot of soldiers will lie about erectile dysfunction so they can get viagra. That way they can drink, do drugs and litteraly f*ck all night. My ex was a soldier, they were all doing this.
