What does it mean to actually be in a free country?

Exercising rights, not trying to charge or protect people with crimes before they've actually done something wrong, AKA removing rights because they might be a risk even though they have broken no laws.
Freedom to protect ourselves and not rely on the government, freedom say whatever we want as long as we aren't causing a panic.
To stay the F out of our lives, and only do the bare minimum required.
100% Freedom is impossible. Do not kill. Do not? True freedom is the freedom to choose which country you live in, and accept their rules. To enhance true freedom, we want countries to differ in laws so we have more freedom, of choice.
I personally don't believe 'All countries should follow western culture' is a good thing. It means no matter where you look, it's the same. I think we have now, and could improve our 'global rules' so countries accept each other as is, while following basic principles, like respect each others rules, cultures, borders, and also basic principles in human rights and foriegn affairs. World peace with respect to others cultures is what I feel real freedom is, with the ability to 'choose your country' if you save money and move.
?
I specify ''freedom'' on my own - no need for ''my country'' to tell me what that should be :)
I'm presently living in a relatively ''unfree'' country - but I know ways to secure my ''personal freedom'' satisfyingly - and without trampling on others' life styles :P
A country where the government does not control what people say or do for political reasons and where people can express their opinions without punishment
Also, a country where people aren't discriminated on the basis of ethnicity, religion or skin color

It means that many other people died to preserve your freedom and you have an obligation to help maintain the freedoms in your society.
In a free country, people have the freedom to go wherever they want, believe what they want to believe (including practice religious and political beliefs), and say what they want (within reason, you can't harm others), all without government interference.
To live in a country, where the government can't have overreaching powers to oppress every individual. Every person has equal rights, freedom of speech and religion, also the right to bare arms to not only defend you and yourself from criminals but make sure the people have the physical ability to keep their government in check when all speech fails.
It depends if someone means literally free or practically free. Literally free means no laws and no authority which I doubt hardly anyone wants.
Practically free means outlawing clear necessities like murder, theft, etc. While not outlawing debatable things like homosexuality, drug use, housing decore restrictions, etc.
If serious about knowing the answer, read George Washington's 1796 Farewell Address, it explains why the world has become what it is today, as history is merely repeating itself, but also outlines what it means to be free from the father of, what would go on for the next 150 years, to become by-far the most prosperous country in modern history.
Free education
Public healthcare
Public media
Strong workers rights + unions
Strong food quality laws
Low impact of religion
Competent law enforcement
Efficient and rehabilitating judiciary
Knowing that you won’t have your home invaded and thrown out of your house to be dumped out in the streets tough shit the enemy will say as he claims your house but you have rights that won’t happen that’s freedom
Free to not die is the big one. Free healthcare is true freedom, it means you can change jobs without losing insurance, it frees you from financial fear if you have medical conditions.
@Shamalien Free healthcare is the ultimate freedom because it's freedom for death. How free is an American who just died because they can't afford insulin, or a Canadian with diabetes who gets free insulin? I would say the Canadian is more free because the American is dead.
@Shamalien Actually you are wrong, want me to explain why? Death is the ultimate loss of freedom. You are more likely to die due to private/corporate healthcare in the usa than free healthcare in Canada. Isn't someone alive more free than someone dead? You are wrong.
@Shamalien no, because I don’t like people who argue for death. I think it’s monstrous, psychopathic, and frankly I doubt you really appreciate death and how important it is. The fact is that a free public healthcare system on the whole saves more lives than capitalist for profit system. Any argument for the corporate system is an argument for more death. So no thank you.
@Shamalien infant mortality, maternal mortality, overall lifespan... etc are all higher in Canada than the usa. Don't be a sheep, read actual statistics and data. Please don't respond, I don't want to talk to a pro-death person.
Your stereotyping of me as a pro death person for being against an inefficient healthcare system astounds me. I guess in your world there is only America and Canada and nothing better than those two absolutely corrupt systems is possible right? If you aren’t willing to learn then begone
@Shamalien Stop replying to me, you're one of those reply guys aren't you? Just stop.
@Shamalien omg you’re a reply guy!!! Stop talking to me you creep! Just stop!
Contrary to most in this world we the USA is NOT free and is getting further and further from free!
People are free to study where they want independent of the size of their parent's wallets. People have healthcare. People can walk on the streets at night without being afraid.
Free from tyrannical rule.
A lot of prime think it means to be free to say and do whatever you want when we still need reasonable boundaries.
People*
Nothing. It's a myth, like a free cellphone. You aren't getting free, just paying for it another way.
It means being free to express yourself and make any life decisions that you want as long as it doesn't break established laws.
No modern slavery. Equal rights to everyone regardless of their ethnicity/nationality. No non-sense rules.
that is just idealism... and not actual reality
it is not literal
I don't think the press should have as much freedom as they do. All press / news outlets tell lies or say things out if context just to get a "good story" it's sickening...
Why can't people tell the truth and be honest anymore...
It means freedom from arbitrary, capricious, and incompetent rule.
The state does not corrupt the people, and do not bring religion to the state
It means the rich and powerful are held to the same standards as the poor.
A country that allows people to do what they want with a few reasonable exceptions.
I. E. Legalize prostitution and weed.
Good question most of the signers of the constitution and declaration of independance were slave owners and they were considered property not people
No government involvement in your everyday life. Obviously law enforcement personnel are needed to enforce basic laws created by the citizens. And the federal government has the obligation to secure the countries sovereignty from outside forces.
Mostly it's about security; financial, health, and safety.
What happened to the American Dream?
https://www.youtube.com/embed/Y__N-JEXvycIndividual liberty including freedom of speech and freedom to practice what ever religion he or she wishes.. But leftists want both of those gone
It means British sitcoms on Netflix so we can laugh at them.
It means living in a dangerous country. Cause freedom and security are mutually exclusive.
Freedom to make fun of the clowns that they place in front of us and call politicians.
No one is totally free but in America we are more free than other countries
Women can make money by prostitution and men can become a woman
Nobody alive today has any idea.
Living in the Nordic countries 😂😂😆
Not being jailed for protesting.
I have not idea since there are no free countries.
Freedom from government intervention and control.
I don't know, never been in one.
Say what you gotta say, fuck the consequences.
What are we free of? Tyranny, or the Vatican?
Equal opportunity, equal choice.
Don't know. There's never been one.
Freedom of choice
Free sex for men
