They can. I mean the key is not just being greedy but knowing how to exploit and manipulate people.
I mean look at Martin Shkreli. He was greedy. But he was just an a-hole to boot. He wanted to show everyone he was smarter than them. That he could use his money and power to whatever he wanted. And he learned that the only thing that happens then is you paint a bigger target on your back. And it eventually cost him his freedom.
Most CEO'S may have disdain for the common man, may think of him as nothing more than a resource. But generally they're smart enough to not show him that face to him.

They are predisposed to think that money is the most important thing in life and spend all their energy trying to get more and than save it.

I don't think so. I will explain it with an example.
Suppose a greedy person wants to make a huge money through business. He couldn't start the business and even if he did he couldn't handle it for long. It's because he won't rule his business from its root but from the top for money. He won't start the business to make it successful but to make money.

Not always, no. I don't think greed matters as much as people think it does. Ruthlessness and backstabbing is another story, though. Those people ARE more successful.
