It depends on what drugs we're talking about. Natural hallucinogens have benefited humans since the dawn of time. So have mild substances like cannabis, tobacco, coffee, tea, betel nuts, coca leaves, and many other things around the world.

I don't drink much, but the world would suck without the wide variety of tasty alcoholic beverages.

Plus, the drugs would be needed for medical reasons. Drugs isn't always all bad. The thing about drugs use is not to become addicted by it.

As some scientists believe humans only settled down in villages, started agriculture, and so on, to have drugs readily available.
