I honestly couldn't tell you, but there'd be more dead people, that's for sure. And considering the Darwinism in action here, I wouldn't even be mad at it. Just like smokers who develop lung cancer.

I would say that if federally marijuana was legalized then it would be a major competitor product to alcohol that has enjoyed a monopoly on unchallenged pleasure products.

Well, first off, there are many drugs that ARE legal. Your statistics cite alcohol ABUSE. Not alcohol USE. This is the bottom line. Alcohol USED properly, meaning 2 or 3 drinks, 2 or 3 days a week, for relaxation and social interaction doesn't kill anybody.
Alcohol kills people who ABUSE it by drinking copious amounts because they've become addicted to its numbing effects, or ABUSE, for psychological and physical reasons. This is true of EVERY drug that can be legally obtained: morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, methamphetamine, benzedrines, dexzedrines. All of the former have medical uses and can be prescribed by doctors to aid health outcomes.
But again, people find means to abuse the former for recreational, psychological and eventually physical reasons. Humans enjoy altering their perceptions for entertainment, then, unfortunately, this can lead to addiction. In addition, there are addictions that can occur to substances that are required to live, such as food, and medications needed to survive: pain medications are the most common. And people overeat to get similar euphoric feelings garnered from drugs. Excessive overeating or overeating of unhealthful foods can lead to diabetes, especially if there is a tendency for the disease recognized in someone's family.
So, it's not USE, it's AB-use...
The same is true of alcoholism and other genetically recognized diseases. Diabetes is also a disease of abuse and overdose of high fat, high calorie foods, and lack of exercise. But people have tendencies toward the disease, also. And, if humans don't get proper psychological support to live well, they often turn to drugs, alcohol and food to feel better momentarily, instead of positive interests that don't involve drugs. This isn’t entirely accurate. Due to the difficulty in proving causality and resultant, particularly in cases in which the money is strongly against the “victim”, there is no proof that fast food actually kills people and little proof that alcohol does so.
Contrarily, previously considered “illicit” drugs have countless overdose deaths attributable without refute. Certainly alcohol should join that amalgamation of data, but the trust and lobby run too deep within our government to expect their current status to ever change. Whatcha gonna do?I don't think you'd observe too much change in usage across the board. Illicit drugs are already extremely easy for users to access on the black market. You'd likely end up with cleaner products produced at a cheaper price. That said, the industry would still be dominated by a handful of cartels, they'd just have to pay taxes on their earnings.
While fast food is definitely unhealthy, I do not believe for one minute that it is any kind of leading cause of death in America. There are people who eat McDonald's multiple times a week or month, and are still living years.
It is far more likely for a cocaine, heroine, or fentanyl addict to die from that sooner than fast food.
The fact that you are grouping “drugs” in with these groups which are “bad” only proves that are drugs are bad too and should not be legalized.
We need not commit the same mistake again.100% They would. Just look at a situation that is happing right now in WA Seattle. Drugs are basically legal there and they are killing off stupid amount of people.
Yes, imagine if people could buy fentanyl anywhere. There would be kids ODing all over the place.

Yes, for certain regions
No, for other regions So it depends on the drugs. Heroin or crack cocaine will kill you pretty damn fast if you don't land up in jail first for stealing to fund your habit.
Drugs being illegal has no impact on them being consumed.
Heroin and cocaine? Probably. Holy herb? Unlikely.
