There's plenty of newspaper articles from the old days making these claims, but as we all know journalists love to spin a yarn to sell papers. But even though fake news isn't a new thing it doesn't mean every story is fake. Snopes seems to be sitting on the fence with this one. It admits there are many articles from various sources but claims it can't verify them. Now my theory is it probably happened, we know blacks were abused and killed back in the day so it seems reasonable to assume feeding kids to alligators occurred. I know of one incident at a uk zoo (Colwyn bay) where people fed animals from the petting area to crocodiles. So it's not a stretch of the imagination to think people could feed kids.

Most of the stories are based on the same sorts of postcards in your post. The best bait for hunting any animal are the things that it normally eats. A plate of fried chicken would attract me faster than something exotic like sushi.
The regular diet of Florida gators is fish, turtles and small mammals, so dangling a few turtles off of a branch will attract more gators than babies- of any color.
Are the stories total nonsense? most likely, but who can say for sure that something like this never happened?

There's a lot of crazy and evil people in the world so it might even happen today to some children somewhere because someone has too much money and power. But I highly doubt it's something that was done even rarely by the "regular" slave owners... I want to believe they had some human compassion and if nothing else, the slaves were valuable to them so it'd make no sense for them to just kill them off like that.

It never happened. Unless they were dead children baited for alligator hunting. They don't attack humans. Look up deaths by alligator in Florida and Louisiana. It's ain't a thing period.
I'm not sure about alligators, but I do know that crocodiles attack humans. It happens often enough with tourists in Australia who are careless, go to parts of the country where they can be found, and get too close to them.

To say live black kids were used as bait? Nope, they aren't rotten flesh alive. Yes, if you step on one you might get chomped. And as I said before, in the most populous alligator states, the number of deaths are like 1 in 100 years. Look it up.
