What exactly is the logical basis for "human rights" or "individual rights"?

There are no "rights" in nature, or in God's Word. They seem to be a relatively recent political invention. But politics is supposed to concern itself with the survival of the nation-state, not individual people. So why bother with this "individual rights" stuff?

Maybe you should go back and read it again. You appear to have mixed up the 10 Commandments with the American Bill of Rights. I'd also love to hear your explanation for the Babylonian Captivity, Joseph's enslavement, the Sacking of the Temple Mount, and many, many other things.

To put it bluntly, nation states that did NOT promote human rights were not very successful so through "natural selection" only those who support it today is relevant. As for why? Every nation state is a collection of the power and resources of its people. As much as they attempt to treat it as their own power to command it is hardly rare for them to be rudely reminded that they are only an extension of their people, not a superior dictator above them.

So you can't just outright ignore people because they expect benefits from being part of your nation otherwise they will overthrow you. These benefits can then naturally build up to a common understanding of what the people expect from the government AKA what human rights they have. Furthermore these rights can be inspired by ideals, things like being free, be healthy and happy whatever that means in our current society.
