Well this is very retarded. First of all, I am sick and tired of you people jammering on about your rights and the foundation of your country, as if either is as glorious as you make it out to be considering things like slavery or womens rights to vote etc.. from that time. The foundation of your country is fucking trash by modern standards and you should stop trying to glorify it.
Originally private citizens with guns were supposed to replace the military as USA was not supposed to participate in offensive wars. Guess that idea went down the toilet almost immediately and the function of guns has changed in major ways ever since as well. Suffice to say that the role of an armed civilian population has already deviated from the intent of the founding fathers not to mention the weapons themselves which has taken many major leaps to become something entirely foreign from the muskets of old.
But that is honestly all a distraction. We do not base our decisions on something some ancient grandpa decided hundreds of years ago, we need to reexamine it under a modern context to see if it makes sense according to our own needs and situation. To put it bluntly, guns is becoming a major problem. The fact that you can't acknowledged this is pathetic on your part.
Putting aside your crazy conspiracy theories that honestly should qualify you for a mental asylum, are guns a major deterrent to criminals? As USA has more than twice the guns per capita of any other country and has much more crimes than other developed nations, that is just blatantly false. Guns do not deter criminals. So that is one claim thoroughly dealt with. What is next?
Criminals can still obtain guns? Yes, but not at the same quantity and quality. Illegal guns in other countries exists but is such a non-issue that its not even brought up. No reason this would not be the case in USA either. Another claim brushed aside with ease since its made with such childish logic. What is next?
Will outlawing guns make them magically disappear? Of course not, first thing that you actually have sort of a point in. But at the same time eating medicine does not make you magically cured either, it is expected that solutions takes time and considering the scope of USA's gun problem the amount of time will also be very long to see any real improvements. But, and this is important, this does not mean its not a worthwhile thing to do. As the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago, the next best time to plant a tree is today.
There are many things we can do to start solving the gun problem in USA, reducing the number of guns is just one of them but fairly important since no solution can truly be achieved if guns continue to infest society like it has been. The ones who are sacrificing kids is not the liberals who wants to end this problem but you who rather kids gets murdered in schools than you losing your precious rights.

Militia, okay, severely limit sale of handguns, look at Ukraine, it’s rifles not handguns you predominantly use in war. Then standardise the type and calibre, all 5.56mm, as you need logistics. You are allowed only one weapon and it must be serviced and you must be trained and tested, fail tests and you lose access to weapon.
Home defence, okay, then a huge number of firearms and ammunition are just not suitable as they go through walls, the range of the weapon is too far, no good at aiming close up etc etc.
Then there is the actual use of a weapon, in a city why does someone need an AR15 type etc, yes a guy with a farm in Texas needing to kill hog infestations etc, however someone in an apartment block in a city….

Most so called gun crime in the UK isn't shooting. It could be something as simple as not storing your gun securely. Most criminals don't carry guns for the simple reason if they're caught the sentence is severely increased. A few months for burglary can turn into many years regardless of whether the gun was actually used or not. It's also worth remembering that when figures are low any change looks big in percentages.
The reason the libs want to take away your guns is because you've demonstrated that you can't be trusted with them.

to find out why they want our guns gone, look what they did during the pandemic in countries like Australia. "Comply with their authoritarian government or get beat to shit and tossed in concentration, oops I mean wellness camps". You know they built several of those camps across the USA too, right? But they failed at disarming the people, and thus failed at being able to "lock up the filthy unvaxxed". But there were orgasmic moans from the people on the Left who wanted that to happen. That was their goal. An armed populace is much harder to control. That's rule #1 in the dictator's handbook. Every dictator in history has first sought to disarm the people. They want total control and not a people who can defend their freedom from a corrupt government.
Look what was said during the World Economic Forum. They want "pills" that send doctors a signal to let them know that a person is being compliant and taking their pills/medicine/"vaccine". That's not a conspiracy theory--it's from their own mouths.
I'm a hard leftist and this is how i visualize stoping or at least understanding these "chain of events." Of catastrophic gun injury, death, and how to prevent.
A part of understanding catastrophic events that it is very rarely just one sudden aspect that causes such events. it is a chain of events link together. If you cut off one link you avoided a catastrophic disaster. The FFA for an example creates standards making airplane travel a gold star global standard creating the safest form of travel.
I would suggest something similar with guns. Were half way there with the NRA but that organization is more focused on profits. If the NRA was more safety focused it would be ask to by the government to be a agency like the FFA but on the NRA gun enthusiast terms.
So maybe the NRA becomes a investigation agency on gun violence and the leftist are easily appeased if there's an investigation on the level of the FFA. at the same time NRA creates a safety oriented environment on how to use guns avoiding catastrophic disaster with everything they learn from these investigations.
Anti gun people will have zero ground to stand on. Pro gun people will investigate and create better standards of gun safety and the world is a safer place. That's a win in my book.
We must be absolutely terrible to want common sense gun laws. LOL, it's always the first talking point that I expect to hear, "Liberals want to take away our G-d, guns, and freedom!" This said, talking points allow people to turn their minds off and not need to be critical thinkers. Thus, why not answer your own question. Why might people feel that common sense gun laws are important? What might be occurring that they wish to affect (whether or not you agree with them)? What reasonable, solutions-based measures might address peoples' concerns without being oppressive? Is common sense "anti-freedom?" Get to know the other side, bridge gaps, and make our society better.
I'm not trying to argue, but I'd like to address your statement. Did the man who allegedly shot several children not obtain the weapon legally? This said, would some type of a background check have turned something up? I don't know. I can't say that I know enough about the situation to know whether or not he had documented mental health conditions, ties to extremist groups, or a criminal background. It's a complex issue, indeed. Surely, there must be some way that we can find common ground and lead to constructive policies that lower gun violence while protecting second amendment rights. I'm not sold on an either-or black and white mindset when it comes to making our society safer while protecting freedoms. Is this not fair?

We've gone from the original amendment ("a well regulated militia...") to any 18 year old dingleberry being able to buy a weapon capable of automatically firing multiple rounds in rapid succession with the clear intent of mass casualties.

Because there are other nations that have stricter gun laws like most Europe and still have less mass shootings than the US. It's not about public safety, and it never was. Guns have been all over the place in the US for hundreds of years, and their capabilities have been basically unchanged since the 1940s, but mass shootings/rampages are a relatively recent trend.
This is what I keep saying. Americans have had wide spread access to firearms for centuries. We have had laws regulating their use for several decades. Yet the rise of mass shootings really started in the to become a worrying trend in the 90s. Sure, America had the occasional mass shooting before then, but they were much more rare. So really we should be asking ourselves, what changed socioculturally in America in the past few decades that resulted in increased frequency of shootings?
It clearly isn’t because we had guns, because we’ve always had guns.
And it can’t be because there aren’t enough gun laws, we’ve had them for decades and adding more hasn’t reduced the frequency of shootings.
So the causes have to be sociocultural. It’s a no-brainer. 🤷‍♂️

Here's something else to add to your theories. Have you ever heard of Montauk boys? So yes, people are passing laws to take away guns. You know in some states (and every state is different in what firearms it does and does not allow by the way, so what’s legal in one state suddenly becomes illegal in another) merely changing the grip on your gun will suddenly classify it as an “assault weapon” making it now illegal. It still has the same rate of fire, the same range, the same ammunition, but you wanted to make the grip a teeny-weeny more comfortable for shooting.
Boom it’s now an ASSAULT WEAPON! Illegal. And you can’t have it.

Gun control is putting protocols in place that make obtaining firearms harder for those who are dangerous, unstable, or have malintent. If you aren't any of those it will not effect you.
The only call for firearms removal is a proposition for AR-15 and semi- automatic assault weapon buyback. Eg. If you own semi-automatics, you would give them to the government and you would be compensated. If you don't, you get fined.
These weapons are the types that can do the most amount of damage in the shortest space of time.
In order to stop mass shootings we have to reduce mass shootings. We can't eradicate free will, but we can out protocols in place to prevent these tragedies from happening.
But before you say, "what about the black market people can still obtain guns there" Think about if they sold things like heroin, fentanyl, meth, bombs at Walmart do you think more people would own them?
The majority of mass shootings were done with legally obtained guns. Think about it. If we could eliminate dangerous people legally purchasing guns, not 100% of those people are going to buy them illegally. We know that because other countries have implemented gun control and gun reform, and see a drastic decrease in mass shootings.
It's not normal to be okay with how easy it is for a kid to obtain a firearm. Nobody should be okay with that. So let's make it not easy.
