If the left is serious about gun control, why don't they ever talk about banning hand guns?

Statistically speaking, it would save more lives (by far) to only ban hand guns and keep long barreled rifles. They say there is nothing in the Constitution that says what "type" of weapon you can own, correct? So why not outlaw the ones that cause the most carnage?

No it doesn't. At the same time, that Ammendment says the Gov't shall NOT infringe the right of Americans to own guns. That means ANY guns, including fully automatic machine guns or even a cannon! That Ammendment restricts the Gov't from interfering with our ability to protect ourselves using firearms, or our ability overthrow the Gov't when they get out of hand.

I've written this several times now... I WANT the Gov't to FEAR the people, not the other way around. I believe in conducting law and order, not the Gov't restricting our God-given rights.

I disagree. Now is the perfect time. Have you compared the deaths from hand guns over the last couple years? Compare them to years, 2017, 18... There is a reason but obviously they are not saying.

Even if you for the sake of argument banned all handguns and mandated people to hand them over it would take probably a few hundred years to actually go through the motions of collecting all those guns and destroy them. It is not a credible solution here and now.

Furthermore there is no way in hell the NRA and Conservatives would let that pass and if the Democrats insisted on it the NRA and Conservatives would have a field day screaming that the Democrats are "Coming for your guns!" and such things which will probably mean the Democrats will lose a lot of voters and put Republicans in power once again to reverse the law and make it even easier to get weapons.

Well gun control laws would help with that. The aim of banning semi automatic weapons is to minimize the potential harm they can cause at one time.

Ummmm... I don't think you know much about guns. Semiautomatic guns make up about 85% of those sold. Nearly every handgun is semiautomatic (99%), and many rifles, and a few shotguns.

Again, banning high capacity magazines really doesn't slow down or stop a shooter intent on killing.

Besides, if I'm defending my house from an intruder, I HIGHLY doubt there's always going to be a single bad guy. Having 15-18 rounds in the mag gives ME a lot of confidence I won't need to reload in case I miss. And given that situation, the adrenaline, the likelihood I'm about to take someone's life, I'm positive I probably will! So having MORE than 7 rounds is something I absolutely want. You can guarantee the bad guys definitely have more than just 7 in their mags.

Your President is full of shit saying no one needs more than that. He's guarded by no less than 6 Secret Service individuals who are ALL carrying least one 9mm handgun and most likely a second one too. I'm also positive they ALL have at least 15-18 rounds loaded, not the 7 he's pushing on everyone else.

I have a better idea. How about HE (and all other leaders) give up their armed protective details (at least their guns) as an example, and THEN let the rest of us decide just how safe it is to go abut our daily lives.

Nobody is telling anyone to give you their guns. You can still have guns just not these unecessary military style weapons. Kinda stupid to argue that you should have them when you know they are the number one choice for people wanting to commit mass murder. Why aren't you willing to try?

That idea (gun control) worked well for the people of China... and Vietnam... and N. Korea... and Venezuela... and Germany in the 1930's... and I can name several other countries where that's enacted and it has changed - nothing!

That's WHY the US has that hateful 2nd Ammendment - because the people in the Colonies of the "New World" were living under British oppression. They'd had enough with increased taxes, and the British Gov't & King telling them how they had to live. So when they set up OUR Gov't, the first thing they said was we get free speech, the right to practice our religion, and freedom of the press. Then they followed that up with another God-given right - of gun ownership, whether the Gov't agreed with that or not.

Name one damn gun law that has actually prevented any mass shooting. Just 1! And everything proposed and put into law in the past 60 years has done absolutely NOTHING to stop them. When you FINALLY... finally figure out that the problem is NOT the weapon but the idiot individual who misuses them, THEN... and only then will you get it. The problem is people. From the time when Cain killed his brother Abel, that garbage hasn't stopped. Taking away guns, restricting them, and so on, will NOT solve that issue.

Not really. Those countries still have a fairly high murder rate especially Sweden.

It's still a right to own guns in America. The way the Democrats demand to defund cops and release caught criminals with no prosecuting, they're putting MY life and my family's lives in danger. A cop is always 10 minutes away when you need them in 1! I... and no one else needs to become my own 1st responder. That means I can carry a gun and use as necessary. My state just allowed "Constitutional carry" as of yesterday, meaning I don't need a special card to carry concealed too. Makes the bad guys hafta be REALLY careful who they plan to pick on.

@Goforit1010 but do they have mass shootings? That is what we are talking about remember. Just because mass shootings only account for a small amount of gun crime doesn't mean we can't focus on it. We can take one thing at a time. Just because something like gun control won't fix 100% of the problem doesn't mean we shouldn't do it to fix 30% of the problem.

We should be pushing safety like for cars. Suicide is the biggest portion of gun deaths and if there's red tape to keep them from getting a gun as well as better healthcare, thats good govt.
