5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The culture of Switzerland is radically different from the US. There's a major rift between Swiss citizens and the foreigners who are there on a temporary work status, but it's not even close to being a strained relationship and there's not really anything comparable in the US, which is far more multicultural with much deeper cultural divides that aren't really even drawn on ethnic or nationalistic lines. Switzerland is also one of the most isolationist countries on the planet, and since their economy is almost entirely based on services rather than raw materials, there's almost no interest in outside interference or trafficking, plus their geographic location makes them completely irrelevant to basically everybody except France, Germany and Italy. More importantly though, the Swiss themselves have very strong family ties, with many of them growing up and living in houses built upwards of 400 years ago by their ancestors, and children growing up in broken homes being a statistical anomaly. By comparison, broken homes are a majority in many places of the US, and absent fathers are by far the biggest contributor to crime as well as violent crime in teens and young adults. Even when you look at European countries where huge percentages of children are born out of wedlock, they're still raised by both parents. The US also has significantly more gang violence in its biggest cities and along the southern border. Even though many gang shootings meet the criteria for a mass shooting by definition, they are often omitted from data in order to fudge numbers for political reasons, especially in regards to the major cities like Chicago, LA, and Washington DC.
The lazy idiot argument is to compare crime data between the US and any one specific country in Europe using raw numbers. The problem with that though is that the US is much bigger than any of them, so you'd have to draw from a comparably large population chunk, with the combination of EU nations being the typical better but not perfect go-to. When analyzing from a per Capita standpoint though, the US's gun crime data doesn't even make the top 10 of developed nations (mostly European), and suicides alone make up more than 2/3 of gun-related deaths in the US. The "developed nation" you are statistically most likely to be murdered in is actually Norway. Why? Because a country with only 5 million people (compared to the US's 330 million +) could feasibly have only one shooting for every 66 in the US just to match it, and a second shooting sends that data into the stratosphere. But when comparing the situation in countries that aren't even close in size or population, per Capita data is far more indicative than base numbers.50 Reply

some regulations include:
• People who've been convicted of a crime or have an alcohol or drug addiction can't own a gun.
• Anyone who "expresses a violent or dangerous attitude" can't own a gun.
It'd take to long to list the rules and regulations required, but they're quite strict and you can read them and links below which also have links describing the vetting process:

I hear that a lot from my friends and family over there. In the recent school shooing they had, the shooter was a teenage boy who somehow obtained two ak47 guns with custom attachments and lots of ammo. How does an unemployed teen from a poor family afford these things? Also, who trained him?

@Emii_Urashima: Government leaders and wannabe leader have always staged false flags to achieve their goals. The Reichstag Fire on February 27, 1933, which burned the building that housed the Reichstag (German parliament) in Berlin, was a false flag that the newly named Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler used to seize absolute power in Germany, paving the way for the rise of his Nazi regime. These sociopaths don't care how many people including children they murder if it helps them to obtain their goals.

Kelli and Emil gave the two most intelligent answers I've read on here. I've always said that when things don't make any sense to you, it's because you're looking at it from the wrong angle. Having open borders during a pandemic doesn't make sense to me. I was looking at it from the wrong angle. It makes perfect sense to the right people. Not requiring voter ID, even though you have to have ID to get on a plane, buy beer or cigarettes, never made sense to me. But it makes perfect sense to the people who benefit by this. While the whole country was stunned and had tears rolling down our cheeks over the death of these innocent kids the other day, Joe and Kamala capatilized on it within hours.
They gave their anti-gun speeches. How low-down and heartless do you have to be exploit this moment before the parents could even begin to process their grief? Why doesn't Joe and Kamala talk about the summer or riots and burning? Why don't they talk about the 30 gun deaths on any given weekend in Chicago? They exploited the deaths of these children for their own political gain. That's sick.
Right after that tragedy happened, a guy on this site said exactly what I was thinking; "I wondered who gave the cops the order to stand down? - +1 y

532 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. So Switzerland due to geography has never really had a need for a large standing Army. This is why they were renowned back in the day for having the best pike men. Because pike men were relatively easy to train, and you could pack all those mountain passes with pike men and hold of a much larger force like they did in the movie with the 300 Spartans. But for the most part these pike men were not professional soldiers, they were militia men, that drilled regularly and then would have a festival and beer, and make it a community event.
Same is true today, men from the age 18 to 30 have a mandatory service obligation in the Army. But basically they are is a civilian reserve force and they are allowed to take their weapons homes, so if called upon they can report directly to their duty station ready to defend their preassigned position. So basically every male in Switzerland has military training and some sense of discipline.
Secondly, Switzerland has very strict immigration laws, that are near impossible to get around... so unless you can speak Swiss and have establish employment there is no way for you get in to the country or gain citizenship. They never take in refugees, or at least they seldom do and if they do it in very small percentages. So they are a very conservative society with almost universal shared values, and things like racism and social injustice does not exist anywhere near the scale that we see in other countries. Like 95% of the country is made of of White Christians, with very traditional values.
Ethnic groups:
Swiss 69.5%, German 4.2%, Italian 3.2%, Portuguese 2.6%, French 2%, Kosovar 1.1%, other 17.3%, unspecified
Roman Catholic 35.9%, Protestant 23.8%, other Christian 5.9%, Muslim 5.4%, Jewish 0.3%, other 1.4%, none 26%, unspecified 1.4%

1. There's no such thing as" Swiss" langauge. They speak German/French/Italian/Romansh.
2. Switzerland has a lot of immigrants from former Yugoslavia and Albania (from Africa too).
3. First you say that "95% of population is White Christians" and after that you that there are 5,4% Muslims and 26% none religion.
4. They are not really conservative if you compare them with USA, - +1 y
@Cubus Swiss speak a distinct dialect which is a mesh of German, Italian and German. Which is referred to as Swiss.
So I said like 95%... because 17% are specified... l as far as religion goes... 5.9% Muslim 0.3% Jewish, 6.2% so 93.8% are Christians or unspecified. ot none. So thats like 95% more than 90% less that 95%... so LIKE 95% freak show

Take a wild guess... It's home to Davos (home of the World Economic Forum who is pushing the Great Reset), Geneva (home of WHO that pushed deadly experimental vaccines, masks, and lock downs), and the Frankfurt School fled to Switzerland after they sabotaged the Weimar Republic with Communism/Nazism right before WWII started and then traveled to the USA to set up shop next in the USA in New York (home ot the United Nations) and then additionally in California (home to American communism). You noticing a pattern of Globalism yet... Do you really think Bond villains would shoot up their home base? No remember it's neutral territory. Everyone else just needs to fight so they can play both sides and leverage their suffering to take total power... Mean while they are playing their game again trying to spread communism all around the world and Nazism (Ukraine) to start another world war. Communists always try to disarm a country before they genocide them. How do you get a free people to give up their guns that they use to protect their freedom? Orchestrate school shootings over and over again attacking people's children to physiologically manipulate them into giving up their freedom all on their own. They are sick fucks...

+1 yMass shootings make the news. The overall decrease in murder doesn't.
So what is worse? Ten people killed all at once or twenty people killed separately? The news would have you believe that ten killed all at once is worse than twenty being killed.
People like to selectively throw statistics around. Most have never truly looked at the statistics. They oversimplify it. They want easy answers. Never mind that Canada has a similar or higher gun ownership rate to the US, but significantly lower murder rate. It's easy to blame the guns when the statistics say otherwise. Never mind that some countries like Finland have WAY high gun ownership rates than the US but have lower murder rates.
Never mind that, contrary to what the media would have you believe, the murder rate in the US is almost exactly in the middle compared to the rest of the world.
Never mind that the murder rate as decreased very significantly at the same time that gun ownership rate increase.
If you really truly look at the numbers, it's totally obvious that gun ownership rates are NOT the problem. The only people who think the numbers indicate that guns are the problem are not really looking.
The numbers clearly show that guns are not the problem. As long as everyone keeps focusing on guns, they are not focusing on what they should be focusing on.04 Reply- +1 y
@goaded
What does "Their" refer to? I assume you mean Canada or Finland and not another state.
I don't actually remember the numbers without looking them up, but I know both of those countries have a significantly lower murder rate than the US. If you completely ignore the gun murders in the US and only count murder by other means, then Canada would still have a lower rate.
As for New Hampshire, people are pretty chill up there. Vermont also. There are no big cities which makes a difference. As far as I know there is no gang activity, or at least not anything significant. A very high percentage of murders are big city gang and drug related. Outside of the bad parts of cities, a high percentage are related to alcohol and spousal abuse.
By the way, New Hampshire is only slightly below the national average for gun ownership. - +1 y
Switzerland. (The subject of the question.) Apologies for not being clear.
The US is 137 out of 195 countries in the world when it comes to murder rates. Between Bolivia and Afghanistan. Russia is the only "European" country that's worse, although Ukraine is close. If you really want to congratulate yourselves on being better than Iraq and Namibia, feel free.
You're right though that it's not just the guns, it's the attitude of people and the freely available guns and ammunition make it much easier for them to kill each other (and themselves).

I'm not going to argue with you are bout this. You are using the same very narrow argument that anti-gunners always use. I suppose it's real convenient to pick one set of data and think you can draw conclusion from it, while ignoring LOTS of data that should cause you to draw a different conclusion. (some of which I've already mentioned)
2 million guns? That’s it? Well Let’s look at Switzerland’s poverty shall we? Rated about 9%….. of around 8.6 Million people that would be 774,000 people. They also take very good care of their own unlike America.
America has hundreds of millions of legal and illegal guns, the poverty is rated 13% what’s 13% of 340 million people? Roughly 44.2 million people.
Why does poverty matter? Well the majority of day to day shootings happen in cities with the highest poverty ratings like Birmingham, Cleveland, Chicago, Compton, Detroit, Gary and the list goes on… then you have to put in the factor of mental illnesses in America compared to Switzerland, it’s significantly and disturbingly higher than most countries.
You rarely hear about shootings happening in rich communities, especially rich on rich crimes, Switzerland has got a lot of money, and a lot of funding for mental health, also look at their prisons…. They’re resorts compared to the rest of the world.00 Reply- 5.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.

1. We are not members of the same culture. We are a multicultural nation. So racists will look at issues like this mass shooting or the one in Buffalo and dismiss it as an issue with another community.
2. We are an extremely violent society. Switzerland's signature is its commitment to peace and stability.
3. Ever since the Civil War, we have had this cold war within American society. Remember, America isn't like other nations. Our biggest conflict. . . the one where the most Americans died, was the Civil War. And we have had these issues unresolved for decades. The extremists in our midst really believe in arming themselves, spreading hate and all manner of vitriol, because they have always believed another armed conflict is coming.20 Reply - 4.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yTougher mental health screening and limitations of what kind of gun you can own, who can own a gun, and tougher gun regulations in general. Like it can't be loaded if you aren't hunting.
But also, Swiss culture is very different. In America, there is a problem of people feeling they need to shoot people to be respected. Even these Samoan gangsters complained that they had to get guns, because American gangsters don't want to fist fight, they just wanna shoot you.
In Switzerland there is no such threat, so people buy guns more for recreation, rather then protection/respect.30 Reply 1.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. America has media and politicians (mostly democrats like Maxine Waters, Kamala Harris, AOC, Illhan Omar, and others) that support and encourage hate and violence. Some teachers in schools also encourage dislike of others, often based on race and/or gender, including different discipline consequences for students based on their race, which also increases hostility.
Those are the main problems in the USA.20 Reply- 1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
