Why are we exporting oil to other countries?

Back in 2008 when gas was $4 we were working to be independent from relying on other countries oil, now with gas at $5/ gal why are we not keeping it in the country?

Don't kid yourself. You never were "independent" of other countries oil - it's your sole reason for existing. To store and process other countries oil and be our mercenary cannon fodder. The same reason Apple doesn't produce products in the US, but in China - the costs are not worth it.

The reason for prices rising, is that no one predicted Russia going to war and having such a detrimental effect on food and supply operations.

during much of Trumps time in over fuel stayed roughly the same due to him opening up drilling on federal lands and in federal waters. so there was a massive surplus for them to export. however Biden shutdown federal drilling within his first week and fuel costs started to raise slowly. since democrats keep pushing for alterative energy however what they don't tell you is. much of the materials required to make batteries and other renewable power generation items. are mined from third world countries by under paid and over worked people. where the average pay rate in under $3 an hour and they often work 12+ hours a day.
