+1 yWell, first off, Biden doesn’t do the drilling, oil companies do. There’s plenty of oil to be drilled for domestically, and there are tons of unused permits to drill on federal land, the companies are choosing not to. That’s a fact, not opinion. So did you ever consider —and I assume you understand the very basic principle of supply-and-demand— that the oil companies might want to keep supplies lower to keep the demand and the prices higher? Especially after a year where everyone was at home, not driving anywhere near as much? You don’t think they want to recoup their profits? The oil companies donate to republican campaigns, so they’re never going to put them on blast publicly. All I’m saying is: some people blame Biden, some people blame Putin for putting us in a position to have to cut them out of the supply source…. why is nobody asking the people who actually tell you how much you have to pay them for their product? Gas doesn’t have to be this expensive. I was just two and a half hours away in New Hampshire yesterday, gas was $4.59, and I came back to Boston the same day, and they’re charging $4.89. Why? Because they CAN. They don’t have to, they just WANT to, and they know they’ve got us all over the barrel. Look up how much money the CEOs make at Exxon, Shell, etc, etc…. they aren’t hurtin’, and they got there by making us hurt. Even when gas was supposedly low under Trump…. way too damn expensive, they don’t have to charge that much. Why do they get a free pass when they’re the ones directly dicking us? Why does no one ask these questions? The answer is most of you get your news from…”the news.” FoxNews is in the conservative lane, so their narrative is always going to be to trash Biden and the Democrats, because they’re in bed with Republicans. Like their TV personalities are trying to reach out to and make personal recommendations to Trump on 1/6/21 for fuck sake, we have the messages. If you want to tell me that stuff goes on with CNN or MSNBC and the democrats, whatever, I wouldn’t put anything past anyone in Washington, but I’m just saying we have verification of the Fox-Republican link. So everyone who watches FoxNews is told it’s Biden’s fault, because that fits their desired narrative, and Tucker Carlson can’t say on-air “So why isn’t anyone criticizing the petroleum companies for price gouging? I’m not saying that’s definitely happening…. we’re just asking questions.” [makes his stupid Tucker-face]😂
I mean…. you guys know there are places on earth other than America, and most of them are dealing with these exact same oil price issues and same economic inflation? Is that all Biden’s fault too? I have no cause to defend Biden, I couldn’t give a fuck sideways about that glass of warm milk. I just hate to see everyone angry and charged up and lashing out at people and organizations and all that. There’s so much good in life, and so many people just choose to ignore that and dwell in the negative, and it’s not good for our souls. I feel sad for those people, not angry towards them. They’re just misguided and putting too much stock in the wrong things.07 Reply- +1 y
He did run on a platform of gradually converting to clean energy sources, that’s correct. That’s not a bad thing, by the way. Oil and coal and all that are very polluting, and we can’t just ignore that because it’s expensive or because people currently work in those industries. You have to crack eggs to make an omelette. And we’re talking like 2035, if you can’t get your shit together enough to find another job in an industry with a brighter future and be able to purchase an electric car by almost a decade-and-a-half from now (when they’ll be way more affordable for the common person), you have way bigger problems than Joe Biden. The transition isn’t happening overnight, and it’s like you’re forgetting that there was a catastrophic worldwide pandemic that shit things down across the globe, again, not just in America. Everything we’re dealing with, these other countries are dealing with too. The world is so much bigger than America, we aren’t unique. You’re just looking at it like “There’s only America, and maybe our enemies like China or North Korea or Russia or most of the Islamic countries, Japan is our economic ‘frenemy’, and then there are some other places I don’t like because brown people immigrate from there, and then everywhere else is a big question mark, so fuck it.” But if you go to Liechtenstein or Luxembourg, one of these little countries you never think about, I bet they’re citizens are at gas pumps paying a premium too, and some are like “This Heinrich Flüegerdoodle guy is the worst king we’ve ever had!”, or whatever the title is there😂
The only big thing that stopped oil-wise was the Keystone Pipeline, that wouldn’t even be operational today, and it’s a pipeline, not a drill or a pump, so it wouldn’t increase oil supply for the US in any way. Talk to the oil companies about why they aren’t drilling right now to ease the supply issue, that’s the real question, and the only reason to not ask it is because you want Biden to be the scapegoat.

The technology to make them cleaner is rapidly developing plus the push to force everyone into electric vehicles is stupid because electricity comes from coal. Our grid isn’t powerful enough to handle it. Green liberals killed nuclear power in the 70’s forcing us to use coal. Now all of a sudden coal is bad. He suspended drilling on federal lands. Oil is traded on futures. The very day he was sworn in and he instituted his domestic energy policies the price of gas shot up because the oil traders saw the future of no more domestic supply

That’s fair enough, but at the same time, doesn’t this all sound EXACTLY like what someone who sells oil would say if they were worried about people switching to a different energy source? Think about that, and which party is taking those people’s money, which there’s A LOT OF💰💰💰 Not saying they’re the only ones on the take, I’m just saying that on this issue, they know who butters their bread, and they’re not going to fuck that up for themselves. Maybe GreenPeace has Biden in their pocket, lmao, I don’t know.
But overall, I feel like all we ever do is complain about gas and oil prices, much more often than when we’re satisfied with it. Last time I remember thinking gas was reasonable was when I was 19 and it was 99 cents a gallon in summer of ‘98. It’s kind of just built on that we’re going to be complaining about it. But can you envision a scenario where we don’t have to rely on this finite resource and do business with nations we don’t get along with in the name of lower prices? If it was as simple as “just pump in America” I feel like we’d be doing it already. The incentives to get away from non-renewable energy sources goes beyond environmental concerns. Like I guess what I don’t understand is why people are seemingly offended by the idea of changing to renewable energy, not overnight, but gradually over 15-20 years. It feels like their politicians told them to hate it and created a bunch of reasons why, and everyone just obediently rolled with it. Nine THOUSAND unused drilling permits on federal land alone, which is only 10% of the drilling land. - +1 y
For sure not every one of those sites is ready to go tomorrow morning, I’m sure that industry is no different from most others in that the pandemic has affected availability of materials and such. But I’m sure it’s not like only 9 of 9,000 are good to go either. And no matter what the futures trading is like, these oil executives are taking HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for themselves annually…. you telling me some guy who made $300M just last year can’t take one for the team of humanity and “only” make like $100M this year? He COULD, he just won’t, and we accept it as slaves to capitalism. And several of these people said outright that their top priority right now is their shareholders, aka “we ain’t taking any shorts over here, keep on paying exorbitant prices and like it. What are you gonna do? Walk? Hahahahaha!”
Just feels like we’re getting mad at the wrong people in favor of getting mad at people we rolled out of bed hoping for something to get mad at them about.

In reality its mostly bitumen and crap that has to be processed to make into some oil.
Whereas the Arabs and Iranians practically piss near perfect fuel oil wherever they strike.
90% of US oil needs to be processed to be useful and that shit is bad for the environment, before the oil even becomes fuel. Arab and Russian oil doesn't need to be processed as much to make useful.

+1 yYour question displays a lack of understanding of the oil industry. As a long time oil investor your entire concept of the issue is false.
During the covid lockdown the price of oil went negative, small oil drillers went bankrupt, low productivity wells were shut down and capped. New oil wells (which take years to become productive) weren't drilled and the industry changed , investors like myself didn't want them to overproduce so they paid dividends instead of opening new wells. Oil production in the USA dropped significantly in 2019 and 2020 due to lack of demand.
Now we have another problem, while there are plenty (thousands) of drill permits issued for federal land , companies are slow to drill and are having supply chain trouble. Steel pipe and other drilling equipment is in short supply slowing down the process.
The truth is that presidents gave little power over gas prices.
That would be socialism wouldn't it?19 Reply- +1 y
First, we cannot replace all Russian oil. (Supply)
Second, DEMAND is high.
More demand equals higher price.
The president can't control the price of oil, Trump tried in August of 2019 to RAISE the price of oil asking opec to cut production. He did this to keep companies in the USA from shutting down production, he failed.
Next you'll try blaming worldwide inflation on Biden, somehow he's more powerful than any president in history.. able to effect the price of gas in Japan..

What pipeline did he shut down? Keystone xl wasn't built because they ran out of money due to the reason I listed, low and negative oil prices. Only 39 miles of it was ever built and it's ORIGINAL completion date wasn't untill the end of 2023, it was never meant for US consumption anyway (keystone is so Canada can export the butimus tar)
You did realize that gas prices in Canada are high as well do by you?

If they start today, how many YEARS do you think it takes to find, drill and arrange transportation of the oil from a new well?
Again, how many YEARS does it take to open a new well from the start? - +1 y
Speculation drives the market.
All high oil prices do is PROVE the people who tried to encourage us to end our dependace on oil right. Biden was right twenty years ago.. if we would have listened and worked towards that goal over the oil companies propaganda (the prince of saud didn't invest in Fox news for no reason!!!). We wouldn't have this problem today.

A year ago I might have considered it but now I will never buy one. I am saving so I can buy the last gas powered pickup truck that comes off the assembly line and will store it in my garage until my current ride gives out.
