Adoption or buying a dog?

Personally I’d choose to buy🤷🏼‍♀️ from a responsible private breeder of course and not off Craigslist. Before this causes any debate, backyard breeders sell on Craigslist with no thought of health or quality of the dog/cat while responsible breeders do health testing and genetic screening on their animals before breeding them to rule out hereditary diseases. Shelter/rescue dogs are NOT fit for everyone and DO come with lots of issues that NOT everyone is equipped to handle. I want an XL merle colored American Bully that will also be trained in protection work.

I am fine with both. All my childhood, we have adopted dogs and other pets. I adopted two dogs from a shelter, and yes they come with lots of health or behavior issues sometimes.


My one dog who passed away, was not housebroken, well, he was, but you had to walk him outside and tell him to go potty (he knows to poop outside though, but peeing inside was his issue). My other dog has bad (doggy) social anxiety. One was a beagle (purebred, I think) and one was a maltese dachshund mix.


I personally like purebred dogs, and I kinda like unique dogs… Like shiba inus or bull terriers lol, so those would need a breeder. I wouldn’t mind a labrador, but again, I like the purebred dogs.


With purebred dogs, I just think that they might be a bit easier to train since I would know more about their temperaments. But that also depends on their breeder and if they are reputable or not.


Sometimes shelters do have such sweet dogs who unfortunately got put in a shelter due to the owners not being able to afford them, their health, they aren’t allowed to have pets, etc.

There are so many responsible breeders that breed such amazing dogs with great temperaments. They pour thousands of dollars and all their love into raising them.

And with all the new research and techniques that come out, they only get better.

Backyard breeders are the type that breed dogs into the ground - they’re abused, neglected and horribly treated. Probably kicked outside with their litter in a fully unsafe cage.

There is a huge difference.

Not everyone has the ability or knowledge to help a rescued animal be their best. It takes a whole lot of work and it doesn’t always become perfect. Some people need puppies to raise into assistance dogs, therapy dogs and to be safe around their family.

There’s so many reasons that go into each decision of whether you buy and adopt. But at the end of the day, making the right one is important both to the owner, family and the dog itself.

The dog in profile is gonna be breeding dog once she’s ready, as my business and profit.

I’ve been researching everything to do with breeding for the past 2 years. We’re waiting for DNA results to come back and then she’s gonna get her hip/elbow scores (brucellosis testing isn’t done where I’m from usually because we don’t really have it here).

Herself and her puppies are gonna have a whole room to themselves. They’re gonna have the whole place decked out with play equipment, speakers for desensitising to fireworks/storms, a tv to desensitise to a variety of things, a pram far off the ground for walks, heaps of my other animals to meet, people, toddlers, outside play pen, kiddy pool, lots of thinking games, crate training, car rides etc. They’ll have a grass potty inside to help toilet train. Lots and lots of stuff but at levels they can handle it.

You do you. Buying one is at your own peril. It's not wrought without difficulties. You can choose to buy one, or you can choose the "gas station puppies." Or "cats" that you are buying from said "research." When you bring up cats from when they can fit in your hands, you alone dictate how they behave. Dogs on the other hand. It's not the same. "Gas station mutt" might very well get you 16 years. It comes down to what? Luck. Genetics, breed. If you want a certain something or other. Know this. Love the son of a bitch. I occasionally do find full breed puppies on Craigslist that are very high in value being sold for a very cheap price like border collies, standard poodles, giant schnauzers, bulldogs, etc. you just have to know what to look for and see if they have parents on site.
