What would happen to Senate control if a Democrat has a heart attack and dies?

Liberals/Democrats, do not chime in on this. This is a Republican/Conservative question only.

Let's say a Democrat had a heart attack and dies before the upcoming midterms. I do not wish death on anyone, but let's play "what if".

Would that be enough to give the Senate back to Republicans until the midterms? Would that be enough to rescue our nation from these dumbass liberals?

The 17th amendment empowers the state governors to appoint a temporary replacement to either complete the term, or just hold the seat until a special election can take place. In the case of an appointed senator, they will pretty much always be from the same party as the one who passes away, in most states by law.

The significant majority of appointed senators get defeated in their first election or do not actually run for the office.

In most states, I believe that the governor of the state the senator is from has the power to appoint someone to fill the seat until the next election, so it would depend on whether the governor was a Democrat or Republican. It would be an interesting (though regretful) situation that would cause lots of political discussion.

Usually the governor appoints someone and they often by law (not always) are required to appoint someone of the same party.

Each state has a process to appoint a new Senator if one happens to die while in office. It is often the Governor who does this.
