Why do we need automatic weapons?

I'm brainstorming some ideas to help with the current gun issue.
Please list your reasons.

There is actually an interesting theory that an automatic weapon is inherently less useful than a semi auto. The military determined this and train primarily in semi or burst. Automatic is only used for suppressive fire in a team. It’s a waste of ammo otherwise. The Vegas shooter modified his weapons to simulate automatic fire and while he did tragically hurt and kill a lot of people the majority of his rounds missed. If he’d been slower and more calculating it could have been much longer before people figured out what was happening.

We almost never used burst, either. Burst and full auto are really only used on rifles when/if the SAW gunner goes down or has a major malfunction and we needed suppressive fire. Thank God that never happened outside of training situations for me though because most rifles and carbines as well as their magazines really aren't even built for it anyway.

There is no gun issue, there is a mental health issue disguised as a gun issue.
How often have you heard of a gunman/woman be shot dead before he/she was able to do anything because an armed citizen stopped them before they could start their rampage? Rarely I bet, because it doesn't fit the narrative of disarming the general population and making it easier to manipulate.

We don't. People use them for fun or, if they're delusional, to somehow protect them from the government or military.

Do you have any idea what it takes to legally own an full auto weapon. I don't think you even know enough terminology to have an intelligent conversation about firearms with. The issue is a culture where men don't know how to be men and violence is seen as a tool to solve problems. We have created a culture of violence. A soap opera like, "The Walking Dead" with killing diseased humans. Just one example of many.

People find them fun to shoot. Historically most shooters are people that shouldn't have guns. Crooks or people that are mentally ill. If we take the guns away that bad guys will find a way to get guns illegally. Even if the US bans guns it doesn't mean Mexico will. Meaning the crooks will buy them elsewhere. So is wea re unarmed how do we defend ourselves?

Maybe regular people don't need them but law enforcement shiufl have access in case they need them. Mostly I mean guns are not bad. The gun did not decide to shoot anyone. It was the operator. If you take our handguns then yes we need to defend ourselves. And hay some people like to shoot automatic weapons. I have and they can be fun to shoot for a hobby.

Interesting. I actually saw a video made by someone who used Australia as an example that nothing happens if your guns are taken away. They only had the really dangerous ones removed anyway.

In Australia people were beaten by police in the streets if they left their house without the vaccine. There were many videos of it online, but Google and YouTube have removed most of them as usual.

Because the bad guys all have fully automatic weapons. Plus all of the movie actors have them and rockets and all of the really neat stuff a law abiding citizen can’t legally own.
Along with the shootem up video games that kill or blow up every thing in sight.
Kids are trained at an early age to kill !

Automatic weapons have nothing to do with the current gun issue since they have been essentially outlawed a long time ago already.

So step one maybe an education on the basics of guns would be the best way to help the current gun issue. If people actually knew what they were talking about maybe we could spend less time wasting on informing people what a gun actually is and more time fixing things.

No. Being liberal (pun intended) with gun uses… there’s really: home defense and hunting. Anything else is for fun.


Businesses and firing ranges can rent them out. Like big wheel trucks or go-carts. But owning rifles that fire 60 rounds a second ain’t needed. Especially high capacity magazines and buying 1000s of rounds of ammo. Not. Needed.

I think the founding fathers in principal wanted the public to match the government in terms of military might. We were also never supposed to have a standing army either.

I wonder what the founding fathers would say now with the weapons being what they are? They would not want the government to have a disproportionate level of force over the people though.

Frankly it's going to come to a point in the future where the average citizen can increasingly make deadlier and deadlier weapons all on their own. We're going to have to figure out how we're going to live in a world where every Joe Schmo can make a weapon of mass destruction.

What are you talking about? Getting a license for a fully automatic gun is very, very difficult and takes over a year.

An automatic weapons keeps firing when u keep ur finger in the trigger. Those are all very illegal and generally difficult to get even criminals don’t typically have automatic weapons. Only semi automatic weapons are legal those are ones which fire one shot each time u press the trigger.
