How liberal is Canada?

My friend moved to Vancouver and said it is a lot more liberal than here in Los Angeles or the American West Coast in general. Legal prostitution, male maternity leave, it seems like Canadians are more caring, more secular, and more open minded than their counterparts in Washington, Oregon, and California, but why?

You will find most modern western countries are like that, its just the US that isn't. Once you step outside the bubble of America the world you will see is dazzling :)

maybe Vancouver is more liberal , the entire country isn't necessary like Vancouver though , its a large metropolitian city. i know some people who've moved there but never really been there myself
