First, he would have greatly energized the young electorate who became disillusioned with Hilary Clinton who they viewed as being a power-hungry establishment candidate. Furthermore, because she was obviously being assisted by the Democratic establishment including state-level and women-led Democratic party organizations and newspapers aiding Clinton and sabotaging Sanders, they tuned-out. The Democrats lost numerous, mostly young, voters in swing states and potentially flipping red states because of it.
I voted for Clinton in 2016. I did actually like Mrs. Clinton and felt she was more competent than her husband, but I was furious at what the Democratic establishment did. Not only had I supported Sanders, but I carefully watched the sabotage going on. I felt I could not reward her for that. Yet, the GOP picked Trump and I knew he was the sociopathic monster that he showed himself to be.
So, yes, it's a shame: Sanders would have beaten Trump and we would have had a much better Supreme Court because of it.
Yep, Clinton knew Trump was sociopath monster, yet she still propped him up as the pied piper candidate thinking he'd be the easiest to beat.
No. For all the online activity, the simple fact is people did not turn out to vote for him in the primaries. And if you're talking about 2020, the thing is pretty much everyone knew something like J6 was going to happen. My thoughts were, with Bernie, it would probably be millions of insurrectionists instead of thousands, thus eliminating any chance that we could survive as a country try. Biden was always considered a compromise candidate - a stepping stone from how extremely far right our country had gone.
Polling means very little because all polling necissarily took place before the right really made Bernie a target as their main rival. If you think they whine about socialism now, you have no idea what level of vitriol we would have seen if an openly self described socialist had been their main opponent. Indeed, if anything, Bernie was propped up by the right in an attempt to make democrats fight each other: see, republicans are well aware no one will ever vote for them because of merits, so their main strategy for winning elections is to stop people from voting for democrats. Their methods are basically "nothing is off the table, no idea unwelcome, no proposal too dumb." Obviously getting left leaning voters to hate their candidate so much that they'd prefer a far right candidate to win is part if that strategy.
"people did not turn out to vote for him in the primaries", actually they did, problem was the primary was rigged. A lot as Sander supporters couldn't vote as they were either purged from the voter rolls or had the party affiliation switched.
State laws determine when voter roles are purged or party affiliation switched (i. e. it is not a party function). If that story is true then it is because people didn't turn out to vote for state lawmakers that wouldn't make those laws. The idea that we could all just vote once and be done with it forecer is doubly flawed. For one thing democracy is participation in power. You have to show up to vote every time there is a vote, not just when it has been sufficiently hyped. And secondly, voting for the sake of avoiding needing to vote in the future is voting for authoritarianism no matter who the immediate candidate is.
I generally disagree with everything out of Bloomberg's mouth, but Sanders could have won by a pretty safe margin (in both elections) if his party hadn't tried to shut him down every step of the way. He had massive grassroots support, and even got some support from those that usually vote Republican for his anti-establishment stance. Ultimately we can't know for sure, but seeing how badly people on both sides hated Hillary and Biden (I've literally never knowingly met anyone who voted for either of them in the primaries), I think Sanders was the safer bet.
I was hoping to see a Bernie presidency as a non-American.
It would have made me much more comfortable to share a border with the US knowing a life-long, Leftist, experienced lawmaker was leading that country.
Instead we got a giant syphillatic cheeto.
You can blame Hillary for Mr. Cheeto, she with the help of the DNC propped him up as the pied piper candidate thinking he'd be a cake walk to beat.
Yeah, I agree. The DNC shot themselves and the American people in the foot. Hillary was a terrible candidate.
I agree. I was so ready not to pay taxes any longer with Bernie taxing the rich for everything

If it were a fair, clean fight, then yes - but it never is.
Liberals would have liked him more than Clinton or Biden, but they were always going to vote for the Democrat nominee anyway, whoever it was (in the same way that most Trump voters would have voted for whoever the Republican nominee was - even if it were Ted Cruz).
Unfortunately, the US in not a democracy. The screwed up electoral system means that elections are decided by a very small number of "moderate" voters (especially those who don't really follow politics) in a handful of swing states.
Sanders was not well known to voters - unlike Trump, who was a reality TV star, and had somehow built the (false) image of a successful businessman (essentially, people voted for the fictional character that Trump played on screen).
All that the average moderate voter knew about Sanders, was that he was some kind of communist - the result of a decades long smear campaign against him, and not even true. Ironically, most of them would actually support most of his political positions (universal healthcare etc).
No because Bernie Sanders is politically too left wing. He might have found more support in the young generation but they are not the majority of the voters.
I think Sanders was too radical left and he is also part of the political establishment comparing to Trump.
So I´d think he would have been worse than Clinton.
Sanders would have been a very bad candidate. He would have been easier to beat than Hilary.
From the meme
"The polls show he would've waked away with it."
The polls showed the same thing about Hilary. I've seen a heck of a lot of elections in my life and seen a heck of a lot of polls. Those polls have a very poor track record.
I think that the average ''American'' voter - and the various lobbies as well- are too scared to majorly support anyone more ''left'' than -say- Recep Erdogan.
As a person I respect Bernie Sanders very much. I think that he should not be punished with being the ''President'' of the U. S. in its present condition.
Despite of that, I find it pointless to ponder over things that ''could have happened''.
They didn't - and that's it.
That's probably true. Hillary was utterly despicable. But Bloomberg is an evil, globalist, bag of putrid shit. Who cares what that slime ball has to say?
@abc3643 Sanders in 2016 and Tulsi in 2020.
@abc3643. I voted Green even though I have serious issues with that party's positions. I knew Stein wouldn't win, but I voted as a protest to the two major parties. I despised Hillary but couldn't bring myself to vote for a Republican. And Trump was a relative unknown aside from his business dealings and comic public persona.
Interestingly, on the morning after the election when I learned that Hillary had lost, I was surprised to feel a huge weight lift from my shoulders. I was elated that she had lost. That megalomaniacal, mass murdering psychopath mob boss would have caused ruin to this country and set the world ablaze.
And over the next four years, I didn't think that Trump was the worst president. He appointed some horrible people. I disagreed with many of his policies but agreed with some. I thought he was far better than Dubya and O'Bomber (who I call Dubya II), both of whom did more damage to this country and the world than any previous presidents.
After the Democrats' despicable behavior from 2016 to 2020, I voted for Trump over blithering Biden. It was the first time I had ever voted Republican in my life.
@abc3643 I voted for them in the Primary, voted green party in 2016 and a no vote in 2020 since voting was like ordering a sh! t sandwich and trying to decide between white and wheat bread, no matter the choice was still a sh! t sandwich.
The dems were never going to let Bernie win. Even the dems sling around the term "socialist" as an insult.
@blondfrog A lot of folks would have. But dark money in both campaigns hates Bernie. When Bernie proclaimed himself a socialist, there were forces unleashed that were going to ensure we never got a vote on having him lead an administration.
@blondfrog We didn't choose Joe, the DNC establishment did, just like they choose Killary in 2016.
Probably. Everyone hated Hillary, they weren't happy about Trump and a lot of people didn't have a problem with Bernie. Still don't think he would have been so bad.
Between him and Biden it's hard though because as much as I hate Biden and think he's terrible for this country, so far as not being attacked by another country, I feel like if it meant protecting our land he would make use of our militaries darkest, most overpowered, unfair, war crime stuff without even having to think about it... Unless the attackers were China probably.
Bernie Sanders let BLM harass him off his own campaign speech. Bernie might have had good intentions (MIGHT; he's a politician after all), but he was spineless and weak, and I think just about everyone who wasn't a college-aged female, saw that.
I think he would've done better than the incredibly unpopular Hillary Clinton. I have no idea if he would've won or not.
All the polls show Sanders doing way better against Trump than Hillary, plus showed there would of been a bigger turn out had it been Sanders vs Trump instead of Hillary.
Bloomberg maybe sanders probably not I will say I wish that battle took place get American traditional way vs socialism out of the way, Now the battle I want to see is Ron DeSantis V AOC in a presidential election American Traditional v traditionalist a socialist let have the battle and stop beating around the bush on what kind of country we want to be
Bloomburg's bid to be president was a joke people don't take too kindly of some rich guy telling us what's best for us. Bernie is a Commie, he has a big following of fellow commies but he will never be president..
You have a lot of learning to do. (*)
Fortunately, many 2016 Trump voters did just that which is why they voted against him in 2020.
(*) In your defense, I am a New Yorker. We have been well aware of his bullshit for almost 50 years now. Sadly, the rest of the country has had to learn the hard way.
Case in point: 06 JAN 2021.
If he really was a man of the people, then he would have marched with them to the Capitol like he said he would in his speech at The Ellipse. But he didn't... because he isn't for common folks - he's for common folks to do his bidding.
@abc3643 I would imagine Secret Service would have taken a dim view of that. He was behind bullet proof glass at the podium, probably for good reason. He travelled tirelessly to stadiums throughout the country and had interacted with thousands of people. This is in stark contrast to the current occupant of the White House
The girls think Bernie could have. The guys know better.
Why are white women so ignorant of civics and politics?
Ask Bloomberg why Bernie couldn't beat Joey. lol
Don't need to, 2020 primary was shady just like 2016. One example is California poll workers being instructed to hand out provisional ballots that won't be counted instead of the correct democratic cross over ballot that counted the same as a regular ballot.
Democrats said there was absolutely no voter fraud in 2020.
Said the same thing during the 2016 primary, turns out they lied.
It's what they do best.
Republicans are equally as good at lying.
I disagree.
Anyone who is too blind to see both parties are full of corrupt liars is a fool.
Disruption on both sides but there's more corruption on the Democrat side. Who left Americans behind in afghanistan?
Independents would have voted and I believe he could have pulled it off
I believe Democrats would of supported Bernie Sanders, look how close he came to defeating Joe Biden in the primaries.
He actually would of beaten Joe had the DNC establishment not tipped the scales in Joe's favor. Remember seeing video footage of a voter in California yelling at poll workers for over 5 minuets rejecting the provisional they gave him as he was demanding a democratic cross over ballot they had hidden under the table. No way Joe who was in last place barely drawing a crowd, magically pulls ahead of the guy who was drawing massive crowed to become front runner over night.
I heard people liked Bernie Sanders
We did, but the DNC with the help of MSM, did everything they could to elect Joe who no one liked.
Oh my, they are trying to stir up the Democratic Socialists (Communist) Bernie radicals…
@Soteris I think you are living in the Past…like60s. Bernie Sanders is a publicly announced as Communist who had his honeymoon in Russia. Everyone knows that if they paid little attention during his run. Media glorified it.
They do what you are concerned about in the public school…those kids know much more about Ingles and Marx than their Parents.
—And, if you knew any of them. The “sweetest” are Sweden/Iceland Socialists supporters, God is Dead (ers), my Berkeley friends are frightening.. as they straight up say Youth in next 20 years will bring Our Bolshevik Revolution , and many of them talk about the 60s like it is sacred
Bernie Sanders is objectively not a communist. He thinks of himself as a "Democratic Socialist" which I feel is as good of a title for him as any. It is however far from an actual communist and misusing the word "communist" will only make it more socially acceptable to use in the future.
You mean the guy who was bitching about millionares but later changed it to billionares when it turned out he's a millionare😂😂😂😂😂
The hypocrisy is amusing
They’d have to cheat even more if the Bern had been the nominee.
Maybe. It's entirely possible. I think a lot of pundits REALLY underestimate how much Democrat voters were really pissed off the Hill Dog rigged their primary. That kinda thing tends to go down like a fart in church.
Only a small percent of Americans are truly Bernie Bro's.
Mostly young kids who have no employable skills and want the government to pay their bills.
No cause he is too in the middle and most Americans are extremists. That's why only dems or Republicans win.
