USA is not obsessed with Abortions. USA is obsessed with culture wars, or rather, the incredibly extremist religious and/or establishment core in USA is utterly terrified and desperately trying to hold onto power and relevance as they slip more and more every year.

This abject panic is manifested in several ways, one of which is rejection of modern progression and attempts to re-establish historic cultural norms to a state back when they wielded power.

As such this is not really about oppressing women, or racial groups, or dismantling rights etc.. All these things are simply the current battlefield they have decided to fight on in their attempts to stay relevant. Once they either win or completely lose they will simply drop the subject and move onto the next topic they found that can rile up their supporters. Like how they dropped interracial marriage or voting rights for women after fighting it tooth and nail.

Whatever they might say about it, they dont actually care. They might hold strong feelings on the subject today but that is just because they worked themselves up over the conflict and not because they hold any inherent opinion on the matter. Basically someone told them they should be upset and like a well trained dog reacting to their owner ringing a bell they respond without even having an idea about what is going on.

Because the average American is too ignorant lazy and indoctrinated to inform them selves about or care about things that really matter. When the elites decide on the next distraction, the average American says “ooh shiny” and chases it like a dog after a stick. I guess you ain't American so I'll try to make it simple: we gave them an inch and they took a mile. We allowed abortion thinking that it'd be rare and early in the pregnancy but it eventually got to where people used it as birth control and they aborted way later than normal people find responsible. I personally think we could have said 6 weeks latest and one per woman and you pay for it yourself but now we just abandon it. So a Republican SCOTUS (what they have now and will have until they either force a restructure or they all die - no term limits, remember?) isn't only going to NOT care about affordable healthcare or climate change.

Normally though, the vast majority of people never think about it. As soon as all the frenzy dies down it will be like that again. The media and some people will try to milk it as long as they can, like they do with every other issue. But eventually it will die down.
