Im not saying its not an issue in other countries, but in most other Western countries people seem to be more concerned about Healthcare, crime, economy, inequality.
Why are Americans on the left and right so obsessed with it?
It’s an issue where there’s no real middle ground and American politicians use that to their advantage to widen the divide between the two parties. The number of pro-life democrats is heavily dwarfed by the pro-choice ones and vice versa. It’s pretty much the thing that helps you decide how to vote between the two parties. It’s a easy-to-manipulate issue and creates tense arguments that make it easy to distract voters away from news that would otherwise damage a politician’s public image and let that information be forgotten to time.
Abortion is healthcare.
Its a polarizing issue, and recently our laws were changed. Many people feel that is a religious issue, and have twisted the Bible to support their ban (Biblically life begins with the first independent breath outside of the mother). And the left side sees it as a clear violation of our standard of separation of church and state. While the right sees it as the murder of innocent lives. Neither side is willing to compromise as both see it as a moral issue.
