1) They’re larger so you can fit more stuff in them for camping, fishing, moving, buying furniture, helping friend move large items.
2) They’re more comfortable to drive with better visibility. If you’re disabled, a larger vehicle is easier to get into/out of. Especially if you need to store a wheelchair.
3) They are much safer than smaller commuter vehicles.
4) Some can only afford 1 vehicle - especially these days so if they have to tow or haul, they’re stuck commuting with the same vehicle since most commuter vehicles can’t really be used for anything else.
5) Personal preference? Why do people need to have a reason?

Many guys drive pickup trucks because it bolsters their apparently weak male ego.
I drive an SUV because it is an extremely reliable vehicle, it has great visibility all around, it was offered to me at a great price, and it is very easy to haul groceries or merchandise from Lowe's/Home Depot/etc.
I live off grid so I can't really use a prius sorry

1. Those vehicles are often safer in a collision.
2. They want to show off to other people with an expensive vehicle.
3. Maybe they only have one vehicle so they have to use it day to day, but on occasion they need that truck or SUV to transport a boat, motor bikes/ATVs, or for some other purpose when they are on vacation or on weekend trips. It used to be very fashionable and was intended to show what a "tough guy" you were, but now it just makes people look stupid - particularly those who drive the lifted trucks with huge tires that are good for precisely nothing and are unsafe as hell.
Enjoy the disgusting gas prices truckers. You know, that's a solid question. I honestly have no idea why. Maybe they will eventually use it for it's intended purpose. Or maybe because it is a status thing.
Because we like them. A Ford F-150 is the most popular "car" in America.
1 in 5 new vehicles sold in the USA are pickups. So?
A bigger car is more safer to drive than a box on wheels. That you think their purpose is "different" is irrelevantFishing, hunting, camping, etc. A lot of places I go and conditions I drive in you just can’t do in a car
I drive a family car although I don't have a family. What's your point? Do you expect me to ride a unicycle?
I use mine lol. but I undserstand what you mean. See it all the time people driving trucks they don't use.
How do you know they dont use them for their intended purpose?
Because their dirt bikes won't fit in the back of a kia
I find when I drive my pickup or my SUV I can see well ahead of me in traffic. They do have their advantages. Have you ever rode an SUV or a pickup truck. I know a lot of women love SUVs.
they are used to get from one place to another , which is their purpose with storage as an extra
Actually it's because it's easier to see from the ground while driving
because they want to. bigger cars are safer.
