What event changed world history?

The Toba eruption. Every last branch of the human family was wiped out, save for us, the Neanderthals (who were way over in Europe) and the Denisovians (I have yet to hear a reasonable theory for HOW they survived, but they did). The whole of humanity was reduced to between ten and fifteen thousand people; probably the closest genetic bottleneck we've ever had. Whatever civilizations we'd built were annihilated, and not necessarily quickly, either- plant grow basically STOPPED for most of the world.

Fun fact: not only is the Toba magma chamber bigger than the one beneath Yellowstone, but it was the LAST supereruption that ANY supervolcano on Earth has had- this means that there's no way to know what signs we'll get before it happens again. Given that we know the signs for REGULAR volcanic eruptions, we can certainly form educated guesses- but guesses is all they are.

Too many to choose from. To mention one event that had major impact, the Great Depression that started in 1929 and affected the entire world helped change history. Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power in large part because its policies helped the German people survive the Depression, and we all know what that eventually led to... World War, the Holocaust, and ultimately the Cold War.

I always have... I think most people have an intuition about it. I felt that way about 9/11, Covid, the Trump Presidency. Sometimes the change was good, sometimes bad, but always momentus.
