Where to begin? Not sure that I could pick just one, but if I were forced - odd as it might sound as an American - I would pick Pearl Harbor.
While not unmindful of the suffering that day - and the many that would follow - the operational brilliance and tactical daring of the action were impressive. Few events in history have marked such an obvious turning point in history.
For balance, the other event that I would like to have attended was Japan's signing of the surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. Again, an impressive turning point.
That said, frankly, as I mention these I am immediately mindful of other events. So, as I say, my answers above would be my instant response if someone put a gun to my head. It really is hard to pick and choose.
Even harder, though, would be being forced to answer what historical figure that I would want to meet. There are dozens. I just could not answer.
