I think you're thesis is going in the right direction but I think you're example is flawed hence Trump isn't hated for being rich. I would add that a person that is going a different way than is going a different way than the mainstream of society.
Take Elon Musk or Joe Rogan or Cardi B and Greta Thunberg or many others.
They all chose their own radical way of getting famous, some people follow them others hate them.
They are not hated for being famous but because people don't like their methods.

Just so you know, Trump took his father’s money and screwed the business up, to the point of several bankruptcies. It had already been reported by the newspapers that he would be richer today, had he never tried to be a business man.


As to your question, no, I think people do respect a person who genuinely makes something out of himself.

All business men move their money over seas and report their losses to get a tax right off. His money is probably flowing around In the cayman island. There probably more millionaires and billionaires that live in America as we speak, but we don't know because their money is always moving around over seas. A small business owner looking like he's struggling to get by be a super wealthy, but we don't know because his money is moving around. Bankruptcy means you're out of debt who is to say he "ruin the business" when plenty business owners declare bankruptcy to get out of paying debt and taxes.
