Is there a reason why people keep addressing me as ma’am?

Question

I get it, I’m not 21 anymore but I’m not 55 either why I should be called ma’am. Like for example the lady at the store addressed me as ma’am and she’s older than me! She said “ma’am your daughter is running out the store” (my daughter is a very rambunctious toddler) and of course I ran after her and got her.. but the point is the lady knew I was young enough to have a small child so why use ma’am and not miss?

It tends to be a regional indoctrination, most common in the Southern US or Midwest. Kids are taught it is rude to not use Sir or Ma'am. Don't take it personally. They mean nothing by it. I can understand how it can be seen as aging us... something people generally don't like seeing. Just see it as their indoctrination and don't take it personally.

For one, I am ex-military and I was taught to do that by the Marines and my parents before them. If I got a perfect blowjob and she asked: Did you like that? I would say: Yes Ma'am!" It's called respect, just as we have for the rank.

Yes ma'am/yes sir is very common here in the United States. It's kinda difficult for a lot of immigrants. You'll get used to it soon enough. Also maybe don't let your kid just run around unsupervised lol

We are not in medieval days and we are not back in time with brothels and kings and queens, this is current day quit acting weird already. And obviously if this is such a topic being called man and Sir offending people hasn't this got out that it's offensive as of today and if so if people keep using it or the intentionally being rude because the thing is the word mam can be you used intentionally rude. Ever had an argument with a customer service person vice versa you're going to hear a lot of mam this and mam that in a condescending tone so I don't like the word I feel like it's really rude like just say thank you without saying thank you maaaaaaaaam you sound like a goddamn goat.

I sometimes call women “ma’am” to make them feel old and to fuck with their heads. Or if I want to kiss their ass I call them “miss.” Different tools for different purposes.
