The core GOP belief in “small government” and “free markets” and “no taxpayer waste” doesn’t hold up quite as well as it used to under scrutiny, assuming it ever did at all.

In North Carolina, Trump GOP lawmaker Ben Moss has pushed forward a ridiculous bill (HB 1049) that would require towns and cities use up to $50,000 in taxpayer funds to destroy free electric vehicle stations on public land if local authorities don’t build free gas and diesel pumps alongside them. There’s, of course, no provision included in the bill that works in the opposite direction.

The GOP is filled with people who seem to have sub-room temperature IQ's.

That's because the GOP no longer has a core belief.

Over the past 20+ years, their entire model has become "obstruct, and screw the Democrats". They do that because they need to. In the absence of any effective plan, the only way they can retain power is to consistently vote against, or block, any/all helpful measures implemented by the Democrats.

That way, they can say, "The Democrats failed, and you should elect us, instead." Then, once they inevitably do come to power, the only thing they do is reward their donors and lobbyists, by screwing over the middle and lower classes.

Then the Democrats get elected again, the GOP blame all the problems, that they caused with their shitty policies, on the Democrats again, while systematically blocking all attempts to repair the damage. Then it's, "Oh, look; the Democrats have failed again. Elect us, instead," all over again.

They're actively trying to destroy the country, for the sole purpose of blaming it all on the Democrats that they prevented from fixing it.

An actual conservative wouldn’t subsidize anybody’s private business activities. No fuel company of any kind would be getting any kind of handout or public support. If the public isn’t subsidizing all fuel types why should it be subsidizing any? Competition will determine the best fuel type, and so be it. Even when one type wins it still shouldn’t be getting handouts or space on public land.

I think you are missing the point. Conservatives are heavily invested in fossil fuel companies, and view alternative fuels as an economic and political threat, despite the fact that fossil fuels are essentially killing the planet via climate change. Therefore, conservatives will do anything they can to make alternative fuels less attractive economically in the hope they will be used less and fossil fuels will be used more.
